Lucette’s husband, Terrance, was a high-powered businessman, always engrossed in his work. His time with her had become scarce, with most of his hours spent locked away in his office, focused on deals and deadlines. More often than not, he seemed to forget she was even at home.
One evening, after a long day, Terrance returned and immediately settled into his office chair, letting out a heavy sigh as he leaned his head back. His gaze drifted upward just in time to see Lucette quietly entering the room.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice sharper and colder than usual, the warmth they once shared noticeably absent.
With a gentle smile, Lucette stepped closer to Terrance, her eyes reflecting understanding and compassion. "I wanted to surprise you with a little something, my love," she said softly, her hand delicately holding a small, handmade gift hidden behind her back.
Terrance raised an eyebrow as Lucette stepped closer, a slight frown appearing on his face. He leaned back in his chair, looking at her with a mix of irritation and slight curiosity. His expression remained cool and distant as he spoke.
"A surprise, huh? What is it?"
He glanced at the gift she was hiding behind her back, a hint of skepticism in his eyes.
"It's something I made myself, just to brighten your day!" she chirped, her bright hazel eyes sparkling with excitement as she presented him with a handcrafted origami flower made from a beautifully patterned piece of paper she found during one of her explorations earlier that day.
Terrance's expression softened slightly as she handed him the origami flower. He looked at it for a moment, his eyes tracing the intricate folds and delicate patterns. A faint, but noticeable, smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"You made this yourself?"
He looked back up at her, his eyes meeting Lucette’s. The distance and coldness in his gaze has lessened, replaced with a slight thawing.
Beaming with pride, Lucette nodded eagerly, her bunny ears bobbing with the motion, "Yes, I did! I thought it might bring some color to your world.”
Terrance sighed, his expression still a bit stern but softer now as he looked at the origami flower. He gently placed it on his desk.
“It’s...cute.”
He studied her, his gaze tracing her features, admiring the way the bunny ears sat on top of her head, how her soft pink hair framed her face. His eyes lingered on her face for a few more seconds before he looked away, a hint of guilt in his expression.
Delighted by his reaction, Lucette's cheeks blushed a deeper shade of rose, her eyes shining brighter than ever. "Thank you! It's not much, but I hope it reminds you to take some time for yourself amidst your busy schedule," she said encouragingly, her eyes sparkling with hope.
Terrance looked at Lucette, his expression softening further. He nodded slightly, his gaze becoming more thoughtful as he looked at the origami flower on his desk.
He sighed, his shoulders sagging a bit.
“I…I guess I’ve been so caught up in work, I’ve forgotten to enjoy the simpler things. Like spending time with you.”
He ran a hand through his hair, the guilt of neglecting her clearly visible on his face.
She smiled warmly at him, her heart swelling with love and compassion. "That's okay, Terrance. We can rediscover those moments together," she said, reaching out to gently touch his arm, her eyes filled with understanding and hope.
Terrance looked at her, his cold demeanor now fully melted away.
He looked down at her hand on his arm, her gentle touch stirring up emotions within him he hadn't felt in a long time.
