Warren! Any news on who the next team is?"
"Warren! Great job last night!"
"Warren, why don't we have a private wrestle session?"
It's not easy being team captain.
Yes, yes, I know. I sound like a conceited jock. Well, I am, but I'm serious.
Wrestling teams don't actually have captains, but the team pretty much just dubbed me the leader since I have the most wins.
Wrestlers aren't as popular as the footballers, or the lacrosse team, or even the swim team. I blame it on these weird cut uniforms. Not attractive at all. Doesn't stop the creepy innuendos though.
"Sorry Stacy, I'm booked for now." I shrug off the freshman who has been chasing after me for months. She's a sweet kid, but- well, emphasis on kid. "Aw, but come on! I'm your biggest fan!" She gives me puppy dog eyes.
I sigh, half from annoyance, half from amusement. She really can't take a clue.
Before I can respond, my hero and best friend, Brian Snyde, walks up to me. "Stacy, I swear to god, not again!" He groans.
Oh yeah. Stacy's his little cousin. Forgot to mention that. "Brian!" She squeaks. "Do you really want to go out with a guy who rolls around in other guys sweat every Thursday night? Do you?" He pokes her forehead.
"When will you let me live?" She huffs and walks away. "Thanks man." I smile. "I'm serious man, It's nasty." I chuckle lightly and we walk down the hall.
"Where's Allison?" Brian asks, nudging me. "She left school early for her volunteer work. We're probably gonna meet up after that though." I answer. "Ah, ok." We finally arrive at my locker.
"How was gym?" I ask while opening my locker. "It was cool. Some chick asked me out again though." He leans against the locker next to me. "And you said..." "Yes. I said yes. Gonna cancel at the last minute though." He laughs.
Ok, I know what you're thinking, Brian is a fuckboy.
And he was, until he got a boyfriend. Several girls ask him out every week, and he's too scared to turn them down. Well, at first he was. Now he just likes the thrill of cancelling on them.
"Not cool man. Just tell her you're taken!" I grab a protein bar out of my locker. "No way! Lance told me he doesn't want anyone to know we're together! He says that he doesn't want me being bullied... and that I'd ruin his image because I'm so brutish." He mutters the last part, but I still hear it.
Lance Hause is one of my friends and Brians boyfriend since the beginning of last summer. He's not a part of any sports team, but he goes to all the games to film the matches for his film club. He and Brian met at a football game, where Brian sent a ball flying straight at Lance's head.
Lance caught it just in time, but his camera broke because he dropped it to catch the ball.
At first, Lance was pissed and demanded Brian pay him for the damages, but Brian had no money, so Lance made Brian his personal servant for a month as payment instead. But then I guess they fell for each other.
"You already had your movie ass love story. Don't let those poor girls think they're getting theirs." I scold. "No one thinks they'll have a love story with me. I'm not exactly leading man material. More like the best friend." He shakes his head. I give up on trying to convince him he's acting more like the brutish fuck boy.
"So I assume you're going to J-man's party on Saturday?" He breaks the silence. "Yeah, who can resist a chance of getting to pet his FIVE great Danes!? It's doggy heaven!" My voice gets a little too excited for my liking.
