There are multiple differences between a healing clinic and a hospital. In the Boiling Ilse we have healing clinics, which would probably be the equivalent of a hospital for a human. A fairly obvious difference is the fact you are required to have a degree in healing magic to be a professional healer. The best way to obtain this is- as far as I am aware- either study in the healing track whilst you're in school, then you have to get a degree in professional healing and take at least three exams; a practical exam where you heal an animal or a demon that is injured whilst a healing supervisor takes notes and grades you, a paper exam and a second practical where a volunteer offers to be a tester for your healing magic. And even then you're not fully qualified for a professional healer job. The best you could do with that is be a teacher or a healing assistant in a minor healing clinic- a clinic that only deals with health that has been prescribed by a professional healer. To become a professional healer you would have to go to a college or university to follow several coursework to insure that you are fully qualified to deal with emergency care.
In a healing clinic the main treatment for most injuries and illnesses would be a witch's magic. But that can differentiate depending on the patient's current state. For example, healer witches tend to have close contact and relationships with potion witches. Professional potion brewers usually have their own department in a healing clinic, especially minor ones. Though you have to have a wide variety of knowledge of healing potions to provide the correct prescription. I suppose this would be the magic equivalent of a "drug" or "medicine". we do have medication on the Boiling Isles But it's different to human medicine.
One time I got really sick whilst having a sleep over at Luz's when we were fourteen and Luz said I had something called the "Flu". She was really worried because I have never had the flu before so my Immune system was not going to recognise the illness and fight it off. Apparently humans have to have a lot of injections to stop diseases like the flu from hurting them. We have something similar in the boiling Isles too. But instead of injecting ourselves with way too sharp needles we just take several potions that have been modified to fight them off. But since I come from an entirely different dimension my immune system doesn't know how to fight it off. Luz decided to give me something called a "tablet". It was round and came from a small white box. She said she was giving me "pa-ar-ceet-a-mol". Even to this day I have no idea what that is.
Human hospitals are different in multiple ways too. The most obvious thing is that they don't have magic. I'm not sure exactly how humans hospital functions. I would ask Luz but she really doesn't like talking about them. She always gets really sad when it is brought up so I tend to avoid the subject. I am aware that they use drugs and medicine to help their patients. Sometimes they give their patients surgery depending on what's wrong with them. Surgery does exist on the Ilse but I imagine that it's very different to human surgery.
Emira is currently the apprentice of a professional healer learning how to professionally heal patients in emergency care. I realise now how awkward it must be to have have your ex girlfriend as your colleague. I honestly feel bad for her. I couldn't imagine staying broken up with Luz and then having to deal with the pain of seeing her everyday without having her as my own. And the fact that Em gave her up to protect me just makes things worse. I feel a pit of guilt in my stomach. I don't understand what makes me so special that she'd want to give up Her love for me. I would understand if it was for Ed, he's an amazing brother and would deserve such a sacrifice, even though Em shouldn't sacrifice her happiness for anyone.
