The world ends.
"So what happened?"
"Many lives were sacrificed for nothing. But people--individuals--died protecting their country from the other side."
"What caused it?"
"Conquest. Territory, tribalism. The same circle of life."

"If I learned anything from my brief time in the corporate world, it's that... War works much like a corporation. They don't care for people nor their personal struggles. You can struggle, and they don't care if something happens to you. You can be professional, coherent, and put together after those struggles, and it's still not enough. They need a perfect cog for the machine. I understand why maybe they feel they need that even if it's not necessarily that important, but I don't understand why I couldn't expect people perfect for the new world then. Wasn't it people who caused me to have trauma? Didn't I struggle because of people? Didn't I respect their humanity and they couldn't even respect mine?
--
"So what happened to those people then?"
"They struggled, and then they died in war."
--
"In the end, they were true to themselves, and that's all that mattered. I wasn't there to change people's minds when they had already made up their mind. I was just trying to make a living while struggling with trauma and other problems."
--
"I get that sometimes I don't make the best decisions, but usually that's after people have piled on the stress, or I was struggling to make sure I wasn't taken advantage of while just trying to survive. It makes me angry that I'm apparently so powerful, but I have raged against my own powerless all the time."
--
"Maybe you help people, then they give you an award."
"I wouldn't accept it."
"Why?"
"I never asked for an award. I asked to have my humanity respected, to have a safe work environment. I wanted a job that I worked for after overcoming all my obstacles."
--
"So why not create your own place instead of waiting to receive the keys from other people? Why not recreate the world?"
"Easier said than done."
"But not impossible, right? And it didn't seem like you were struggling with that. Maybe just with confidence."
