¤ Veronica ¤

The day went to the next one and she was on her way to the meeting place. Yesterday after running into the prince, Veronica found out that a father of four had stolen medicine to save his own dying daughter. The day passed and another five people had died. Today, Veronica felt the emptiness inside her extra hatred that was incomprehensible to explain. Hatred for its kingdom, king and his own son as well.

The people of this kingdom have no loyalty to their most loyal king. Why be surprised when the king himself shows no loyalty whatsoever to his own people. Lots of gossip filling the emptiness of the streets. All to be able to get money in return. How can the world become so cruel? How can you have trust in people? Veronica's feelings feel hopeless, why even consider it when she knows the world won't change one bit? In the world she lives in, there will always be people who will turn their backs on you.

No matter what you do, it doesn't change anything. It's as if time stands still here. Time that cannot be turned back. Veronica is at the lake and there is the prince, sitting on the grass at the exact same place he sat yesterday. Her whole body fills up with hatred as her instinct tells her to kill him here and now. When she looks at him, she only sees his father. The cruel king with his cruel torture. How can the prince be so calm and pretend nothing happened?

It's as if the prince doesn't care about what happened to the children's father after he had tried to save his own children from poverty. One second, she's filled with hate, and the next she feels like sh'e suffocating. No matter how many times she tries to calm herself down, she can't. It feels like time is running out and she is drowning at the bottom of the sea. Veronica takes heavy steps towards the prince and when he hears Veronica's boots, he turns and raises his hand to greet her. He only makes it halfway.

Veronica raises her arm and punches the prince in the face with her fist, sending him tumbling to the grass. Veronica dropped to her knees and hit him several times, but this time with more force. At the third stroke she stopped. Veronica feels a relief run through her body that gives her room to breathe. The prince stares blankly in front of Veronica. Not moving. The empty gaze that she sees reminds her of her own. A lost soul in this world that is moving but never to a place. She stands up and turns away from the prince.

'' Are you going to explain yourself about what just happened, or do I have to guess? It has to do with the people who died last night right?''

Veronica shuts off the sound, turns away from him and instead focuses on calming herself down. The prince continues to talk.

'' When I heard about what had happened, I couldn't stop thinking about the innocent people who died yesterday. But on the other hand, I also can't stop thinking about the people who have died within the next few years.'', said the prince.

Veronica turned to the prince angrily. She could feel her hands forming into fists.

'' You have absolutely no right whatsoever to come here and feel sorry for us innocent people. A father of four children died yesterday simply because he stole medicine to save his own daughter. And you come here and start talking about compassion and sympathy for me. No one in this cursed city cares about anyone else, but only about themselves. All you have in mind is money. As long as money comes running, you are happy. What will happen to the children now? How will they be able to survive without their own father? But no, why would you care about that? You're a prince after all. A prince who is so holy that you can't touch him.''

'' How can you call yourself a prince and talk good about yourself right in front of everyone, and still do NOTHING for your people? Do you want to let your people starve themselves to death? Is that what you want? Answer me damn it!''
