¤ Veronica ¤

Veronica didn't leave her room all day, telling Selin to tell the king and queen that she doesn't feel well. And true it is. The headache is killing her, like someone is hitting her with a stone on her head. She is also feeling nauseous and tired...she only wants to sleep.

The day went with her lying in bed, taking some pills for her headache and trying to not vomit. Next morning she didn't feel any better. The pills hadn't worked for her headache which had made her awake during the night. The nausea was even worse, the thought of breakfast made her hurl. The tiredness was even worse, like she hadn't slept for days.

When she looked at the mirror she saw dark rings under her eyes. Veronica sighed. Today was the day the princess from Zhena would come but...it was also the anniversary of Sam's death. She didn't feel like leaving the room, but she knew she had to do it. The faster she finds princess Kaira back the faster she can leave this castle.

She heard the door open and she knew it was Selin. Not even five seconds later she saw her standing at the door of the bathroom looking worried at her.

'' Milady, how do you feel? You don't look well.''

Veronica gave her a small smile. '' I'm feeling better than yesterday.'', she lied.

'' Are you sure milady?''

Veronica nodded, she didn't have the energy of answering. The dress for today was red with gold flowers as decorations on the dress. For jewelry she had emeralds, her hair was down and curled. Last she took on a small princess crown with rubies on it.

'' Milady do you want to see yourself in the mirror before you leave?''Selin asked while looking at her worried.

'' No there's no need to do it.''

She didn't have the energy of seeing her lifeless eyes looking at her with its darkness and pain. All the way to the throne room Veronica was lost in her thoughts and didn't even notice the captain walking beside her.

The queen is sitting in her place as usual, but this time Veronica didn't see the king. Veronica bowed for the queen and for a moment she saw black and stars in front of her. She shook her head a little, the blackness and the stars disappeared and she saw the queen looking at her worried.

'' Are you okay Mareena? You are looking pale.''

'' I'm fine, your majesty. I didn't sleep much last night, had one of my hard headaches.''

The queen nodded like she knew what she meant and didn't say anything more. Veronica stands next to the queen's throne.

'' The king will not join us for the next three weeks.'' the queen said happily, happy to not see him for a little time. It makes Veronica wonder how her light hasn't disappeared after years with Arthur. She looks younger and freer when he isn't around her, it is like he was her shadow that followed her wherever she went. ' He probably has spies that give him reports of what is happening in the castle when he isn't here.'

'' I hope it isn't somewhere in danger for him.'', Veronica replied.

The queen sighs. '' I don't know, it's probably a safe place.''

' So she doesn't know where he is. 'Not good.'

The doors to the throne room opens and the prince walks in. He, just like her, doesn't look good. Under his eyes there are dark rings and his face is all pale. Dressed in all black, looking like someone had sucked life from his body. He didn't spare a glance at Veronica, he focused only on the queen's face.

He didn't look at her when he came in, kept his gaze on his mother instead. She was looking lighter, freer and happier than when his father was home. It didn't surprise him, his father was an expert on taking away your happiness and what you favor.
