¤ Veronica ¤

The morning had started with Veronica waking up seeing another note on the bed. This time it said

If you want to know what happened to the princess, start with her room. There is a lot you don't know but where the king knows. Next time you meet the prince ask him about Eda. Until next time, your protector.

When she had read the note, she had only sighed and closed her eyes. Another question she did not have the answer to. Veronica had risen to make herself ready for a black day. Nothing could make her wear any other color then black. Another day that will probably start with blood running through the gates of the city, making it look like a battlefield.

Nothing could have prepared Veronica to see an old lady in the city, using black magic to control their bodies. As much as she could remember, there hasn't been magic in Northa for nearly twenty years. More questions rose when the old lady said something about the prince and captain freeing people that were charged with death. But the loudest question of all was when the king didn't know what they were talking about the protest.

'' What are you talking about boy? What protest? Haven't you listened to any word I have told you? Have you been daydreaming while I have been talking to me? Answer me boy!'', the king roared, making them all jump.

The doors to the throne room opened and a servant came, running in, breathing hard and the face was all red. He bowed. '' Your majesty, I'm sorry to interrupt you...we have a situation.''

The poor servant could barely breathe, who knows how long he had been running.

'' What kind of situation?'', the king roared, his fists clenched, his face all red. Veronica prayed that nothing would happen to the servant for the next few seconds he didn't say anything.

'' Your majesty, we have news about princess Kaira. We have gotten information that she has been seen in the city, at the grand statue of your father today in the morning.''

Everybody was quiet, no one said anything for a long time. Finally the queen made a sound, she started to sob.

'' Is it really true?'', the queen asked while trying to get herself together.

The servant nodded. Veronica looked at the king. She saw nothing. No relief, anything. He was just sitting still, looking quietly at the servant. He looked like he was in chock.

A few seconds later Veronica saw the change in the king's face. His face got red over again, his fists clenched and his eyes were promising blood.

'' Well what are you waiting for! Take Thawne and his team and bring back the princess. If you don't come back with her I will personally make sure that you don't forget this day. Is it clear!''

The captain and the servant both nodded, bowed and left the room. The king gave one look at the prince and looked away. They were dismissed.

Veronica and Kai left the room and walked in silence. Both of them in their own thoughts. He followed her to her room. She opened the door, leaving the door open, letting him decide to either stay or leave. Veronica turned her back to the door, looking out at the balcony not seeing anything. She hears the door close, the sounds of steps coming towards her. She feels the heat of his body behind her.

'' Do you think she was there?'', he asks.

' He doesn't think she is there anymore, if she was there from the start.'

'' I don't know. I didn't see her in the crowd, there were too many, maybe I missed her.''

She heard him sigh. '' I don't understand anything about today. Who was that old lady? What did she mean about the sky having the answers to everything? How is it possible that Kaira was at the same place as we were and we didn't see her. I don't understand anything.
