Chapter 17

¤ Veronica ¤

She had, with help of one of the master's men, taken Kai to Ronin's house. Now she was outside the room, waiting for either Ronin or the doctor to come out. She looks at her hands that are covered with his blood. Everything was her fault!

' How stupid can you be? He has never been in that kind of place, you should have prepared him and told him earlier. You throw him in the dark. If he dies.....'

The door opens and Ronin walks out. '' How is he?'' she asks.

Ronin looks down on the floor instead of her. '' The prince will be okay. He is sleeping and resting right now.''

She breathed out in relief. Veronica hadn't realized that she had held her breath. Veronica walks past Ronin and goes into the room. The prince is laying down on the bed, his upper body is naked and you could see the old scars and the new one from tonight. It looked horribly big and red.

The doctor nods and leaves the room. Minutes later Ronin walks in and closes the door. He stands in front of her. '' What happened?'' he asks.

Veronica's voice trembles as she tells him what had happened. '' It was my fault, this wouldn't have happened if we haven't went there.''

Ronin shook his head. '' It's not your fault. It's his fault. Which idiot turns his back away from his opponent without being prepared in case the person will attack you?''

Veronica turns looking at him with angry eyes. '' This was his first time! He didn't even know we were going there! I didn't tell him! We have also made mistakes!''

Ronin glared at her. '' Yes we have also made mistakes but we haven't turned our back to enemies. Am I hearing right or does it sound like you care about the prince? I'm wrong right?''

Veronica looks away and doesn't answer him.

'' What the hell V!!! What do you think you are doing? He is worth nothing. Have you fallen in love with him? Are you in love with him, answer me!''

Veronica turns around with clenched hands and says in a calm voice '' He is my friend.''

Ronin snorts. '' Friend ha! What did he do to make you trust him?''

'' I got poisoned, you moron! If it hadn't been for him I wouldn't be right here. I would be dead. It wasn't like you were there to save me right!'' she says angry and regrets her words the moment they left her mouth.

Ronin clenches his hand together. '' You should be ashamed of yourself! You know what the king did to our parents and you still befriend his son.''

He takes a few closer to her. '' You should have died that day. Your sister died to save you and you befriended the son of our enemy. You should have died! You are nothing! You're not worth saving!''

Veronica blinks her angry tears away and punches him in the face. She turns away from him and says '' Go out. I don't want to see you for a while.''

With those words the friendship they have had for years got destroyed. She hears him walk away and close the door. Silently she goes down on her knees and cries.

She hears the door open. '' I told you that I don't want to see you.''

The door closes. '' What the hell happened? What did you do?''

She turns and sees Thawne standing at the door looking at Kai. She stands up and walks to him.

He turns to look at her. '' He got in an underground fight and got knifed. I know it's my fault. Let's just get a plan on how to take him back to the palace without someone noticing anything.
