DUSTIN LED THE GROUP around the woods for hours. By the time they actually got somewhere, it was pitch black outside and no doubt past curfew.

"Something's happening!" Dustin says, happily.

"Dustin? Can you slow down? Dustin?" Eddie shouts after the running boy.

"I think we're getting close." Dustin faces the group, unaware of the body of water straight ahead of him.

Dustin almost steps into the water but Eddie reaches him. "Watch your step, big guy."

"Oh man. You've got to be shitting me." Steve sighs.

"I thought these woods were familiar."

"Lover's Lake."

"This is confounding."

"There's a gate in Lover's Lake?" Jude asks.

"Whenever the Demogorgon attacked, it always left an opening. Maybe Vecna's the same way." Nancy concludes.

"Yeah, only one way to find out." Steve says.

They rip the tarp off of the boat, and they start getting in.

Dustin tries to join them but Eddie stops him. "Hey, hey, hey, you trying to sink us? This thing holds three people tops, okay?"

Nancy steps forward. "It's better this way, okay? You guys stay here with Max and Dais'. Keep an eye out for trouble.

"You keep an eye out!" Dustin snaps. "It's my goddamn theory."

"You heard Nance." Robin says from the back of the boat.

"Who put her in charge?"

"I did."

Nancy holds her hand out. "Compass."

Dustin begrudgingly gives it to her. Steve tosses his backpack right at Dustin. Steve pushes the boat farther into the water, and jumps in.

"You said three." Dustin exclaims.

"Sorry."

They continue to row out. "Bedtime's at nine, kiddos!" Robin shouts.

Dustin flips her off and she waves. "Miss you already!"

Lucas and Dustin watch them through binoculars, while Daisy, Max, and Jude stay behind while the girls listen to their music.

"They're stopping." Lucas says, catching their attention. "What are they stopping for?"

Dustin grabbed the talkie. "Guys, what's going on?" Nothing. "Come on, talk to me. What's going on?"

"Uh, Dustin, your compass has gone from wonky to wonky with a capital "aah!"
