There's some Comfort in the Comets

The morning brought a warm glow seeping through some sections of the cream curtains that weren't covered or fell during the night time, and hitting a eBook laid to rest on the oakwood side table. The small rays of light were warming to the room but not enough to out way the coldness of the early morning's in Canada, of course you'd be used to it by now however lately it's calmed down a tad bit so 'back to below zero' is frustrating.

An alarm went off signaling it was time to escape her slumber and start one of the best days of the week off with a cozy breakfast or rushed snack. "Mm..." she groaned hearing the repetitive 'Bwa!' sound ripping her away from her sleepy trance. A few moments of silence passed before the sound finally got to her and she propped up from her palms on the soft bed facing the ceiling.

Her barely open forest eyes scanned the duvet for the noisy rectangular device emitting such a terrible sound, one that definitely took it's job as waking up the sleepy teen seriously. Finally landing on her phone, a bright glint reflected on it's glass screen beamed to her eyes causing her to squint them more than they were before. Only seeing through a slither of vision she reached for it and swiped on the 'x' shaped icon to disable the alarm silencing the room as if it were midnight once more.

That peaceful silence was short lived when the sound of a heated argument echoed from downstairs. "You really fucking..." thundered fading out was heard mildly. A less loud inaudible amount of a back and forth running in endless circles joined the noise 'till a loud 'Bang!' disrupted and more arguing.

She sighed and finally got up from the bed rubbing her eyes. Looking at her unmade bed realizing she would probably get shit for it she decided to actually make it before leaving for school.

She fixed up her sheets and duvets plus the extra blankets she'd gotten to keep herself warm during the still coldness accompanying the end of the beginning of the year, and stretched waking up her muscles as well. Assuming by the sound of birds singing their lungs out it and her alarm ringing it's battery away, the time could be determined six 'o clock and school didn't start until eight. It was always convenient to wake up early especially in a household where you're practically forced to with how loud disagreements can get-- and often.

After taking a shower and getting dressed in casual trousers and polo, her door burst open. A man with pin straight black hair just like hers and side burns going from above his ears to near the corners of his mouth, the same mouth that held a bruised lip, walked in. All his features clearly were passed down to her down to the mole underneath is left eye sharp features and near perfect posture, the parts that weren't were his deep brown eyes.

"Oh, dad. Good morning" She greeted with knitted brows emitting disappointment over shadowed by second hand pain. He let out a breathy exhale and placed his calloused hands on his hips, "Good morning Kuvs" he retorted catching another breath. The dad walked over to her and pinched his nose bridge, "Sorry if we woke you up" he apologized. Kuvira shook her head before placing a hand on his cheek, "Did mom do this again?" she asked, her eyes scanning his lip.

He put on an ear to ear smile that showed everything as alright to an ironical point proving it wasn't even close to that. "I'll be alright sweetie" He held onto the hand she placed on his cheek and removed it in a gentle manner "Are you heading out early or do you want some waffles first?" he wiggled his shoulders in a playful manner making her laugh. "I would absolutely love waffles, but I made plans with a friend" she sighed in an apologetic tone.

The dad scrunched his face sillily to look overly let down, "That friend better be ecstatic to have you pick them over my famous fluffy waffles!" he exclaimed. She smiled, "Who mentioned anything of picking? I'm definitely expecting some when I get back from sch-"

"Zimo!" A woman's voice called out loudly from downstairs. He sighed, "Okay sweetie, right now is indeed actually best for you to go to school" he said in an almost whisper. Her brows furrowed, "What? No. I'm not just going to leave you with that monster" Kuvira retorted. He smiled slightly, "Let's not call mom a monster okay? She's just going through some things"
"That doesn't give her an excuse to hurt you"

"Zimo, you fucking Húndàn bring your ass over here, stop fucking running Away!" The voice thundered

He sighed, "I'll be fine, she'll calm down soon. Can you take the stairs by the fire escape today?" he requested not wanting her to have to see them fight. She nodded reluctantly, "Dad, you have to leave her. I don't know if you're trying to prove something-" "Kuvs, I'm not proving anything. I love your mother and that'll never change, what can change is her behavior, that's what I'm trying to do."
