Devyn's POV:

I think I might just shit myself...

The morning light filters through my car windows as I drive to Aminah's place. My thoughts are all a bit untrustworthy at the moment, last night's memory of Aminah's teary eyes seep into every corner of my mind. I needed to make things right. Of course. I owe it to her, to us, to myself...but I'd be lying if I said I didn't consider turning around.

A bit cowardly, I know. But the knots forming in my stomach beg to differ.

Oh what I'd give for a fairy godmother right now.

The city streets blur past me, my grip on the steering wheel tightening. Focus Devyn. I can't afford to lose focus now, but my nerves gnaw at me. It's not just about making things right with Aminah anymore. It's about proving that I'm here to stay, that I will never leave her alone again, and most importantly- that I love her.

But then there's Alex. The thought of her getting so close to Aminah so quickly infuriates me. How could she let her in so easily? Why can't she see that Alex doesn't belong in this picture. I do.

I put the work in. I was her shoulder to cry on. I am what she needs. Not the uncertainty that the Carrington name brings. Though I can't shake the feeling that my Minah is intrigued by the very uncertainty that it brings...

Maybe I should just turn around.

My mind drifts unwillingly back to Hailee. Back to that night. Maybe she was right. Maybe I was always sticking my nose where it didn't belong.

Flashback- Aminah's 22nd Birthday, The Night Hailee Died

"You're making a mistake, Hailee," I snapped, gripping my phone so tightly my knuckles turned white. "Why are you leaving her tonight of all nights? What the hell is so important?"

Hailee's voice crackled with annoyance. "You need to stay out of our business, Devyn. This has nothing to do with you."

"It has everything to do with me!" I shouted back. "You can't just propose and then disappear. she deserves better than this. Better than you."

"Oh and are you supposed to be 'the better'. The little one called you didn't she?" Venom laced every word that flew from her mouth.

"That's irrelevant."

"It is though cousin," she paused for a moment before continuing. " You see I'm the one marrying her, not you, so what she does during her free time is very relevant," Hailee shot back, her tone dripping with superiority. "Hear me when I say this cousin. She chose me. And you did nothing to stop that. So please do us both a favor and drop this."
