Nostra paced around the cavern, anxiety in every step. They stopped in front of the horn and looked at it with furrowed eyebrows and pursed lips. Then, their eyes widened as a portal surfaced by the horn. Nostra stared at it, a spark of curiosity in their eyes before a floating eye emerged from the portal. Nostra recoiled as the eye blinked and circled them. They held out their hands to the eye and the eye floated over, resting on their palms.
"Do you have any news of my friend Hilda, little eye?" Nostra asked, uncertainty dripping from their voice. The eye blinked in response. Nostra frowned at the eye and exhaled sadly.
"How long have you been here waiting for me?"Nostra looked up and stifled a gasp as Hilda approached. Hilda placed a small teddy bear and two dark green eggs beside the horn. The eye lifted from Nostra's hands and drifted over to Hilda's side.
"You're alive!"
"Of course I am! Why wouldn't I b-"Nostra wrapped their arms around Hilda in a massive embrace. Nostra's arms clung to her tightly, refusing to let go. Nostra buried their head into her chest as Hilda awkwardly patted their back.
"Nostra, I'm not leaving your side anytime soon."
"I know you aren't, but I'm just checking to see if you're still there."Hilda laughed gently and fully accepted Nostra's embrace, her body softening in their arms. Nostra felt the steady rhythm of Hilda's heartbeat match theirs and their grip tightened as if afraid Hilda would vanish. Time stood still as the two stayed in each other's arms, wrapped in the other's warmth.
Finally, Nostra unwrapped their arms around Hilda and backed away, concern spread across their face.
"You're not hurt, are you Hilda?"
"I'm tough as steel. I barely got a scratch while I was fighting Obseruvos!"
"You looked rather tired and worn out before. A quick check-up in the medical wing wouldn't do you any harm, would it?"
"I suppose so, but is it necessary?"
"As a doctor, I say yes. Where else do you think Patrick, Virmir and Agatha have been after they left Obseruvos's realm?"
"Look, I'm only going because you said so and I don't like you worrying about my health."
"Well, what are friends for?"Hilda rolled her eyes before walking over to the horn and grabbing Obseruvos's treasures. Nostra laughed before clutching Hilda's hand. The two smiled at each other before galloping over to the mouth of the cavern and stepping out into the sunlight. Hand in hand, Hilda and Nostra walked down the mountain, happiness in each step. As the two descended, birds fluttered overhead and the wind breezed past, nudging Hilda on the cheeks. The sun painted their shadows across the snow, merging their silhouettes into one. Although the two couldn't share memories on the battlefield in this fight, they could share this one instead, an aftermath of victory together.
