Everything was wrong with the dinner party.
Kane and Azura were still coughing from the cat fur. No matter what bowl of soup Kane ate from, it all seemed to be infected with cat fur. Azura had no luck with any other food nearby either. It was all cat fur.
Nostra was in a daze from all the greasy food, slumping over the table as Hilda began to crawl onto their lap. "Nobody is taking a bunny away from me again!" she yelled desperately as Dog Virmir leapt onto her chair. Mouse Syphion hopped on top of Rabbit Agatha's head, desperately holding on to her ears.
"Hilda, get off my lap!" Nostra cried as they pushed her back onto her chair, towards Dog Virmir. Hilda, Rabbit Agatha and Mouse Syphion screamed as Hilda tightened her hold on the rabbit and the mouse.
Lance was cleaning his stomach with his feet. He wouldn't be able to swallow it back into his body until all the disgusting roast beef and mashed potatoes was out of his system. Gross, but it's a frog thing. He was only slightly used to it.
Swan Flint was eating the food off Azura and Patrick's plate. Azura was gaping and coughing as she tried pushing him off. "You're not as graceful as a swan, Flint!" she screamed.
Ciara was still vomiting the food up. It got on her plate, on the table, on the floor and on her clothes.
Patrick sniffed. "Everything, Lyria. Everything is wrong," he finally answered as a tear slipped from his eye. Lyria faltered slightly but Stella just grabbed more helpings onto her plate.
"I just wanted to host the perfect Annual Christmas Dinner Party this year. One that would have made Ser Theo proud," Patrick whispered to himself as another tear fell. Everyone was too distracted by the chaos to notice Patrick's tears. Everyone but Lyria and Rain.
"Lord Patrick?" Patrick looked up to see Lyria's concerned face. She offered a small smile to him. "It's not so bad! Sure, it is my first time attending the Grandmaster's Annual Christmas Dinner Party but I think tonight has been a wonderful party." Patrick tried to smile back but his tears only fell faster. Lyria's face fell again. She was not helping, but it was the thought that counted.
Rain knew he messed up. He had never seen Patrick cry before. Never. Patrick was the angriest person he knew! He needed to come clean about everything and admit it was his fault. Even if it meant eternal punishment. Rain was fine with that. He wasn't fine with seeing the Grandmaster cry because of his actions.
Rain got up from his seat, holding a glass cup and spoon. He banged the spoon against the cup. "Everyone, stop eating the food!" he cried as loud as he could.
"I don't think we want to eat any more of this, Rain!" Ciara cried before hurling up more of her food. Rain grimaced as he put down the glass and the spoon.
"I need to confess," Rain began, nervously fiddling with his hands. He had everyone's attention now. Even Dog Virmir had stopped trying to hunt Rabbit Agatha and Mouse Syphion, though he still eyed them hungrily.
"Everything that's been happening tonight, from the cat fur, grease and spit in the food to the food turning people into animals... it was all my fault."
A series of gasps waved around the table. It was Patrick who spoke first. "Why, Rain? Why?" he asked, his voice low and small like a child's. Now Rain felt even worse than before. Patrick never called him by his first name. Had he broken the already little trust between them?
Patrick continued before Rain could respond, the hurt evident in his voice. "Rain, why have you been pulling all these pranks recently? What do you even gain from them?"
Everyone stayed silent, waiting for Rain to speak. "Patrick, I get you're the Grandmaster of the Frostbourne, but you haven't been the nicest with your soldiers. I've seen the way you shout at them like they caused the Civil War themselves. I've even heard Hilda complain about how much stress she's under. These pranks were just my way of reacting, my way of finding an anomaly in the otherwise strict and regular timetable."
Hilda's cheeks flushed red at being mentioned by Rain. She noticed people staring at her and Rabbit Agatha's paws reached for Hilda's neck, seemingly trying to convey understanding. Hilda sighed. "It is true, Sire. These past few months have not been easy on all of us, but it seems to be affecting you on another level altogether, causing us to feel what you feel."
Rabbit Agatha grunted, Mouse Syphion squeaked, Dog Virmir barked and Swan Flint squawked, all in agreement with Hilda's statement. Lyria, Stella and Nostra didn't say anything. Patrick looked to Azura and she blinked at him wearily. "I hoped that tonight could help us relieve the stress, but it just spiralled out of control because you didn't relieve it earlier."
"You seriously pulled this prank over stress and didn't talk to me about it?" Patrick asked. Rain gritted his teeth in embarrassment. "About that. This time, I had help. You had just banished me to the kitchen until the food was ready for the party. Then, when Herobrine, Naeus and all those others arrived, I had an idea. A bad idea."
Hilda gasped, her hold loosening on Rabbit Agatha. Agatha went crashing onto the floor and hopped away with Mouse Syphion squeaking for dear life as Dog Virmir chased after them. "You let them into the kitchen to sabotage the food for the dinner party?" Hilda guessed. Rain nodded sheepishly, making Hilda look sick before she covered her mouth. In fact, everyone looked like they were to throw up, even Lyria and Stella who hadn't been as affected by the food as others.
Patrick sighed. "Rain, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the way I've been treating you and the other Frostbourne members. I thought that maybe if I pushed everyone to try a little harder in this war, we would have a better chance at winning."
Azura snapped her head towards Patrick. "The last time you did that, Doraine and Daryll got killed," she growled. Lyria cowered and Swan Flint screeched in Patrick's ear.
Patrick looked dismayed but Rain spoke up. "I'm sorry too, Sire. You truly mean well and wish the best for our faction, but it was getting too much. I should have spoken to you first and been honest with you ever since me and Stella got back from the Enchanted Forest."
Everyone was listening again, though Dog Virmir could be heard barking in the background. For a while, Rain and Patrick just stared at each other, not knowing what to say. Finally, Patrick held out his hand to Rain and the Dragon Tamer shook it.
"I promise to be a better and understanding leader from now on," Patrick said, loud enough for everyone to hear. Azura flashed him a small smile and Hilda sighed with relief.
"I promise to stop pulling all those pranks. It was hard enough collecting all that rabbit poop anyway," Rain said. Everyone cheered, even the Frostbourne-turned-animal members.
"Then I declare this the best Frostbourne Grandmaster's Annual Christmas Dinner Party ever!" Lyria shouted eagerly. She spoke too soon, as Dog Virmir went back to chasing Rabbit Agatha and Mouse Syphion. Swan Flint was pecking at Patrick's hair and he looked on the verge of screaming. Nostra lowered their head and vomited straight onto the floor. Azura and Kane went back into their coughing fits. Lance was trying to swallow his stomach. Gross, but it's a frog thing. Ciara was wiping her tongue with a napkin. Still chaos.
Hilda stood up and began to walk away. "This is going to take a while to clean up. Better start preparing," she said as her footsteps grew quieter. "Wait for me!" Lyria shouted as she jumped out of her seat, trying to catch up to Hilda.
Rain couldn't agree with Hilda more. He looked over to Stella and gulped. "I don't suppose you have a spell to fix this?"
