This definitely has a less canon Hilda in this story but this is fan fiction. Fan fiction is never canon.
I sort of got carried away with this story after hating the ending and rewriting both that and adding some bits to make the "Plushie" part of this story more meaningful. Now it's more based on my AU than any of my other stories but whatever. Enjoy?
The day had been uneventful for Hilda, to say the least. It had started smoothly, a simple breakfast accompanied by a cup of coffee. Then, she had gone to her office to sort out paperwork before going out to lead a training session. All in all, it was her typical day of work at the Frostbourne.
Now, it was late afternoon. Hilda was packing away the training arena for the day. Weapons, shields, obstacles, targets; the whole lot had to be cleared. As she locked up the storage unit, she sighed, slumping her shoulders tiredly. The weight of events from today was finally catching up to her, like an invisible weight atop her back.
Hilda took the short way back to the Frostbourne Castle, wanting a much-needed R&R. As much as she enjoyed taking walks in the woods, she really wanted to arrive back home sooner today. She couldn't wait to have dinner, take a relaxing bubble bath, dress in warm clothes and sleep in her lover's arms. That was her typical nighttime routine, minus the warm clothes part. Still, today was going to finish just as normal as her day had start-
Crash! Hilda tumbled to the ground, the soft snow beneath her doing nothing to cushion her fall. She looked up to see an apologetic Lyria look down at her, offering her hand. Hilda took it, scowling as she got to her feet.
"Lyria! What are you doing here?" Hilda asked, confused.
Lyria grinned nervously. "Commander, Commander! I wanted to uh... go for a walk in the forest! Collect flowers! Do you... wanna join me?" she asked back, stuttering on her words.
Hilda cocked an eyebrow. "At this hour?"
Lyria continued her nervous grin. "It's never too late to pick flowers!"
Hilda sighed. "How long is this going to take?"
Lyria's smile suddenly faltered, the nervous grin only nervous. "I... err... uhm..."
Hilda facepalmed. "As long as we're back before dinner, alright? I could really go for some roasted pork soon."
Lyria sighed with relief and gave Hilda a thumbs up. "Back before dinner! We can do that!"
Without warning, Lyria grabbed Hilda's arm, excitedly dragging her into the forest. Hilda didn't protest as she laughed. Perhaps she could bring some flowers to surprise her lover. That would end the day perfectly.
Lyria and Hilda took the long way back to the Frostbourne Castle this time. Lyria had a whole range of all sorts of flowers, a rainbow spurting out of her basket. Hilda hadn't bothered getting much variety, just sticking to roses, lavenders and sunflowers. Roses were Hilda's favourite. They reminded her of the setting sun, of the warmth of a fire, of the colour of her heart, as red as the love she kept locked away inside.
Strangely, the castle was quiet by the time the two arrived in the courtyard. Hilda stayed by the front gate but Lyria happily skipped inside. She looked back, a frown forming on her face. "Commander, what's wrong?" she asked as she rejoined Hilda by the gate. Hilda shook her head as if breaking away from a trance.
"There's nobody here. It's so quiet like everyone is gone," Hilda answered, looking around frantically.
Lyria pursed her lips. "Oh, don't worry so much, Commander! I'm sure it's because... everyone is preparing... for bed!" Lyria squealed.
