What a day. I should have fallen asleep more than an hour ago, but the anger I brought into my room won't let me fall asleep. Writing in this diary has shown that it calms me down, and with some luck I will be able to sleep for a couple of hours before dawn.

Since I got up in the morning, I have hardly found any rest except to eat something and go to the bathroom. Catching up with the new defense troops has been a tedious task. I have been introduced to so many Astra Militarun officers that I am unable to remember the names of any of them. Except Kolver... A lieutenant from the Senturion company, with whom I spent the scarce half hour I had at lunch. A much nicer guy than your pedant general, whose name I don't even remember.

However, there is one name that I have had to learn to the point of exhaustion. Donmur Kalen. ¨Major Commissioner of the 203rd Hazafrano Planetary Defense Regiment.¨ At least I know I haven't forgotten the name and title.

If the word "intransigent" had a physical representation, this guy would be the perfect example. I still don't remember a single time that he has spoken to me looking into my eyes since I met him the day the imperial guard reserves arrived. He doesn't waste a single moment to remind me how important his presence is to the army, something that matters very little to me, but I have to keep the swearing to myself every second that I'm by his side.

And the worst of all... I am under his command.

I can't deny that when I got the news I felt a little excited. Surely because old glories returned to my head. Thinking that I could finally act as a full-fledged commissioner awakened something in me that I already thought was dead.

Unlike my arrival, the reception from the high command of the reinforcement forces was, to say the least, ostentatious. All the regiments were carefully formed, because in Purshok's own words, Governor Carsin wanted to show "the greatness of the great world of Cantus." Although from my own experience I can affirm that nothing matters less to the high command than the prosperity or well-being of any world that does not exceed billions of inhabitants.

Then I saw them. The shout of some officer in the distance alerted us to his arrival. In front, walking at a slow pace, Marshal Habrok, in his impeccable imperial guard clothing, and with more insignia and medals than fingers on his two hands. And at his side, the aforementioned, Kalen.

When I saw Donmur, with his suit in perfect condition, his millimeter square cap, and his martial descent down the landing ramp, I could recognize the mark of martiality and order. I remember even thinking, that this was what a real commissioner looked like. If I had known him before, I would have known that he was not doing it out of duty or honor, but because he was arrogant.

However, there was a third party in the entire sermon. One who didn't wave or act haughty like the other two. One that wore the unmistakable clothing of the Krieg regiments.

Judging by his presence alongside Donmur and Habrok, I assume he was someone important. Surely the one who was in command of the Krieg regiment, which was on the opposite side of my formation. It was difficult to know exactly his rank or status, because unlike the other two, this one did not carry his achievements hanging from his jacket. In fact, if it weren't for his decorated shoulder pads and lightly ornamented helmet, he would pass as any other fellow in his regiment. A strange guy. One that was unknown to everyone I asked in the reserve forces. Not even Purshok knew who he was.

When the ceremony concluded, my men retreated with the rest, and I was assigned to update Kalen on the status of Cantus's defenses. One man to make a report was an impossible task, and two nights I had to stay awake, writing papers with details that I knew no one would read. Having Mason's help would have been relieving, but he barely knew how to write a few words in Low Gothic; and these reports had to be given in the High Gothic. But hey, the lack of elementary education is something that is not surprising in this empire.
