It has been an extremely complicated day, and so many things have happened that I don't know what to start telling first. I think the most important thing would be the best option, but I don't want to forget any details.
The days he spent on the Sable cruise ship were not pleasant at all. I barely found rest, as I had to make a complete assessment of all the reserve and militia units that came on board. Having to ask more than half a million names was exhausting, but luckily I was assigned a cervoskull to carry out such a task. And thank the Emperor that Crosta and Murphy were present to help me with the task, because in total we were around a million and a half soldiers, not counting the Krieg Guard units. Which was about two hundred thousand, according to what Lieutenant Luther told me.
However, when we arrived on the hive world of Scintilla, we wasted no time, and Colonel Tairon and I had to present ourselves before the "Blessed and Luminous Emperor Vex Chalice" himself. Maximum leader of the Ecclesiarchy in the Calixis Sector. A guy I never thought I would see in my worst nightmares.
Unlike the simplicity of Cantus, the Tarsin Hive boasted an overwhelming Gothic art that I hadn't seen since my days on Terra. Everything was so... omniscient, that I felt small in those endless corridors of the Asdministratum headquarters, insignificant. We were simple rats in an endless number of statues that seemed to judge us with their penetrating gazes. It seems that time has made me more susceptible, or my emotional state, because I don't remember that feeling when I was younger. Or maybe I was more proud of that before. And of course, Vex Calix's own office was overwhelming.
I stayed looking at whatever caught my attention. They were works so complex and with so many details, that I was not able to assimilate all the information he was trying to give me. Although surely its message would be something too simple for its complexity. But then. a server announced our arrival, and I knew that my curiosity would have to be quelled by impeccable martiality. My hands were sweating like few times before.
— Don't waste my time. I need you to tell me what happened in Cantus. —
The Blessed Emperor's voice showed no mercy or interest. And I'm not surprised, because for him we were probably nothing more than insects that he could crush with his expensive velvet shoes. However, I kept quiet, and let Colonel Tairon do everything.
—The Ork forces we faced at Cantus were very different from any I have seen in my years of service. Their tactics, the way they penetrated our defense was not the Ork style. Next to me is Commissioner Harrus. He saw this horde firsthand, and fought with them face to face. —
Direct and precise. Something that greatly characterized the colonel. As soon as he said my name, I stood at attention as best I could like the soldier I was, but Calix couldn't care less about that.
—That explains why a simple commissioner is in my presence. —
That arrogance he emanated was difficult to assimilate. However, I could only swallow my reproach and respond obediently. After all, I still like being able to walk on my own legs.
