3rd POV
Breakfast was uneventful, though a few people shot them looks, and whispered among each other. When they were about to get up, McGonagall appeared, and handed each of them a time-table
Percy and the other demigods studied them intently, before deciding they couldn't understand them.
"Uhm, excuse me, Professor?" Melody asked, as she started walking away.
"Oh! Ms. Bethell, I forgot, aren't you in Slytherin? What are you doing here?"
"Just, my friends are so.." Melody trailed off.
"I believe Melody was trying to tell you, that we can't read these time tables." Percy interrupted, knowing Melody lacked social skills, and she would have spent a while trying to get her message across."You can't read English..?" The Professor looked at Percy and his sister strangely.
"We're dyslexic." Annabeth chimed in.
"Well, if there's a language you read better in, I am sure you can use a spell to translate it. Now, you might want to finish eating, and get to class!" She marched off, handing out the rest of the time tables.
"Can we use magic?" Connor asked the others excitedly in ancient Greek.
"I really don't know, we'll find out soon enough." Melody responded, also in ancient Greek.
"What language is that?" Hermione asked, curious.
Melody's eyes darted to Annabeth, knowing she would be the best at coming up with some kind of lie."Greek. It's a very specific dialect." Annabeth said, calmly. Hermione didn't look completely convinced, but she let it go. "Do you know how we can translate these?"
"Yeah, I can cast the spell, and then you just say what language you need it to be." They put their time tables in a pile, and she pulled out her wand, pointed it at the pile and muttered a few words.
Melody picked hers up, and she could read it properly. "I have Defense Against the Dark Arts with Ravenclaw, Astronomy with Hufflepuff, double potions, hhmmhhmm, ooh, lunch!" Melody exclaimed, seemingly uninterested in the classes.
"Perhaps you should sort out your priorities, Mel." Nico muttered in response.
"Moving on.." Travis began "Let's compare time tables!"
"Travis, we have, like, all our classes together!" Connor exclaimed, giddily, grinning at his brother, Travis grinning back.
Melody looked at her time-table and subtly over at Harry's, noticing that they had double potions together.
"Hey, we a bunch of our classes together, Mels." Nico stated, smiling at her. She gave him a grin back, but she seemed distracted by something.
"We have Defence Against the Dark Arts together, Mels! Let's go!" Annabeth smiled, pecking Percy's cheek, and dragging Melody and Nico out of the hall.
The first four classes went by surprisingly alright, and Melody managed to keep her usually sarcastic, rude self-contained, and suddenly they were heading for lunch.
The group met up by the grand entrance, unsure of how they were to arrange themselves.
"We're not supposed to wake suspicion, so let's just sit at our own tables, I'm sure we'll survive." Nico said, pulling Melody with him through the door.
They made their way to an empty area of the Slytherin table, and filled their plates with food."I noticed your glancing at scarhead during potions, anything you'd like to tell me?" Nico playfully said, taking a sip of pumpkin juice, but gagging when he felt the taste.
"Scarhead, is that what we're calling him now?" Melody raised her eyebrows, avoiding his question.
"Don't think you can change the subject, I always get my answers. Now, I know you're a narcissistic pessimist, but I'd like to believe you feel human emotions. Spill." His voice was serious, but Melody noticed the spark of mischief in his eyes.
"Human emotions? Why would I need to feel human emotions? I'm not human, so why would I allow myself to accept the flaws in human nature that make the species vulnerable?"
"That's a dark thought, why do you have to be so gloomy all the time?"
Melody gave Nico a harsh look, but her face broke into a smile.
"So, nothing going on then?" Nico asked."Nothing you need to know about, now eat up!" Melody giggled, and stuffed a piece of toast into her mouth.
They continued to chat about nothing in particular, until it was time for History of Magic. They made their way to the classroom, and sat down in the middle of the room. After waiting a little while, what appeared to be a ghost floated into the room.
"Nico..?" Melody whispered, nodding toward the ghost, and giving him a questioning look. She'd never seen a ghost before.
"Crap." Nico muttered under his breath, and looked down at the floor, trying to keep the ghost from seeing him.
It floated to the board, seemingly unaware of Nico's presense, when suddenly it turned its head sharply toward the area they were seated in."It can't be!" It was staring right at Nico, with a terrified look on its face. It pointed at him, and said with a shaking voice,
"W-what are you doing h-here, king? P-please don't do anyth--"
"Nice to meet you, professor. I'm a new student here." Nico interrupted, shooting a look at him that said 'shut up', and putting an obviously fake smile onto his face.
The ghost nodded ever so slightly, and turned to the board.
"Hello everybody! As most of you know, my name is Professor Binns, and I teach History of Magic. Now please open your textbooks to page twelve." The professor started droning on about something, Nico wasn't really listening. He hadn't realized there would be ghosts at the school. He would need to have a talk with them at some point, to keep them from blowing his cover. The day went on, and eventually he stopped worrying about the ghosts. For a first day, he'd say it went surprisingly well. And he was sure their first week would be great.
Oh boy was he wrong.
