3rd POV
"I swear, I didn't mean to!" Melody whispered loudly to Nico, as they stood over an unconscious blond-haired Slytherin boy.
Nico had just woken up from another nightmare, and come downstairs to find Melody sat next to the boy, and trying desperately to think of a solution.
"How do you accidentally knock someone unconscious?!" Nico answered, having no clue what to do.
"It doesn't matter, we just have to pray he isn't dead."
After a little more arguing, the pair eventually sat him upright on one of the couches in the common room, "Let's just throw some water at him." Melody stated, going to get a bottle. "Right, when shaking him and setting him up doesn't work, water has to." Nico scoffed sarcastically.
"I don't hear you coming up with any better ideas, so until then keep your yap shut." Melody snapped back, and threw a freezing glass of water at the boy. His eyes shot open. "See? I'm a genius." She smirked at Nico.
"What the hell is going on?" The blondie shouted, after wiping his face with his hands. "Doesn't matter." Nico answered, "You're alive. Wanna head to breakfast Mels?" Melody suppressed a smile, and nodded. They headed for the hallway.
"Where do you think you're going? Don't think my father won't hear of this! He'll have you expelled! or worse!" The boy shouted at them. Melody turned on her heel, and walked up to him.
"What's your name blondie?" "Draco Malfoy" He responded.
"Well, Dracula, I don't give a damn who you or your father is. If you threaten me or my friends again, I will chop your bony fingers off. Got it? Don't think you have any kind of upper hand here, you have no idea what we're capable of. "
She turned again, and hastily made her way out, Nico following. When they were well on their way to the Great Hall, Nico whispered "What was that? We're supposed to keep a low profile! Now he'll go round telling people we're crazy!" Melody sighed, and looked away from him. "I got carried away, I'm sorry. It won't happen again, I promise."
"It's fine. How'd you knock him out in the first place anyway?" "He was being an ass, so I hit him. Didn't mean to knock him out." "Hit him? With what, a pan?" Nico snickered. Melody rolled her eyes, and stopped as they stood outside door to the hall.
"Did you read the booklet Chiron gave us?" Melody asked. Nico looked at his feet, avoiding the question. " I didn't exactly think you would have. It says we have to look for signs of potential danger. There's also supposed to be evil brewing so we have to figure out what that means." She said in a hushed tone. " How about we try to get to know people, figure out who's important. We'll brief at lunch?" Nico asked. "Sounds good" "I know it'll be difficult, but how about keeping a low profile for a while?" He said, smirking. Melody huffed, and walked through the giant doors.
Nico spotted Annabeth sat at the Ravenclaw table, chatting with Luna. And Percy at the Gryffindor table, laughing with Harry Potter. Connor was deep in an intense conversation with Ronald, and his brother was nowhere in sight. "Looks like we're done with each other already." He whispered to Melody. "Maybe we should follow their lead? Try to make friends? We do have a task." They agreed to sit with different people, to try to fit in as well as they could.
Nico trailed off to talk to someone he seemed to recognize, and Melody stood alone for a little while, trying to collect herself. Suddenly, the girl from her dorm appeared in front of her. "Hey! Melody, right? Do you want to join us?" Without giving a response, she was being dragged toward a group of girls at the far end of the Slytherin table. Melody was trying desperately to remember their names, something she wasn't very good at. She quietly filled her plate with food, and tried to be as interested in the conversation as possible.
"So, Melody, this morning when I was on my way here, I heard Draco talking about you to one of his friends." One of the girls said, with a smirk. "He's a total player." Melody gave a weak smile, and said "Cool." "Cool?! He's so hot, and I think he's into you!" Another one exclaimed. They kept gushing on for a while, about how hot he was, and how unfair it was that he liked Melody already. Eventually, Melody zoned out, wishing she was still at camp.
She looked up to the doors, just in time to see Draco walk through. He looked her in the eyes, and walked briskly toward her, sitting himself down next to her. The girls at the table hushed, and watched Draco's every move. Melody shuffled awkwardly in her seat, feeling almost trapped. "What's up, sweetie?" Draco shot her a wink. She looked away from him. "Something bothering you?" He said, smirking. Melody got up from her seat, and hastily made her way to the exit, with Draco on her heels. Once he caught up, he grabbed her arm from behind.
"What game do you think you're playing here?" Melody asked loudly. "The same game I always play." He answered. "But I have to say, you're making it more fun." Melody raised her eyebrows and gave him a knowing smile. "Oh, you think I want you? Aren't you making it obvious that it's the other way around?"
Percy's POV
"Really? A pig's tail?" I laughed at Harry in response to his story about finding out he was a wizard. "I swear it! His parents were mortified!" He laughed back. We had both gotten to breakfast early, so we had started chatting to get to know each other, and I was pretty sure he wasn't as uncomfortable around me as before.
"What about you? How'd you find out you were a wizard?" He asked, breaking himself a piece of toast. "Uhm, I was twelve, and my mother decided I should go to a ca-- school for people like myself." I decided to keep the story as simple as he could, and talk to the others about wich details we could share. "Nothing more?" Harry asked. "Not really."
Harry continued on with a new story, just as I noticed Melody and Nico entering the room. Nico whispered something to her, and then headed off towards some other Slytherin. Melody was left alone, and seemed unsure of what to do. I hadn't known her for long, but I felt a brotherly need to protect her. When she got to camp a year ago, she hadn't wanted to talk much with anyone, but when she was finally claimed I got her to open up and we eventually grew closer. I watched as she was pulled away to a group of giggling girls, and I smirked, knowing she wasn't really the kind to giggle.
I tried to listen to Harry's story, but suddenly a tall, slim, blond Slytherin boy walked in, and seemed to head straight for Melody. It looked as though she was staring right back at him. For some reason I wanted to punch him, even if I'd never met him before.
"Who's that?" I asked Harry, nodding toward the blond boy. "That?" He asked, "Draco Malfoy." "Who's Draco Malfoy?" I stared at him. "Malfoy's an ass. He likes picking on people that don't deserve it. And his father his a servant of Voldemort." "Voldemort?" I asked, having heard the name before. "Yeah, Voldemort. Also known as the Dark Lord." "So, the bad guy?" "Pretty much."
Draco strolled up to Melody and sat down right next to her, which seemed to make her very uncomfortable. He tried talking to her, but she turned away. I clenched my fists, and tried to calm down. "What's wrong?" Harry asked, looking in Draco's direction. "That's my sister he's messing with."
Melody got up from the table, and walked out, Draco following close behind. It seemed like she was trying to get rid of him, so before I knew what I was doing, I was walking to the exit as well. Once in the hallway, I saw that Draco had stopped her again, and was holding her back.
"What to you think you're doing? Get your hands off of my sister!" I yelled, and he dropped his grip. "I've got it, Perce!" Melody yelled back. "I don't think you know who you're messing with, Goldilocks!" I said, walking closer. "Percy! Don't!" She squealed. "Better listen to Mels." He said with a sly smirk. Now I was really pissed, I didn't doubt that Melody had the situation under control, but I just couldn't control myself. I punched him right in the nose.
