"Emma!" Nadia called out, weaving through the students.
Emma was walking with a wide smile. "Nadia! Can you believe we're at the same college now?"
They hugged, exchanging stories of their summers and catching up on each other's lives as they made their way to the cafeteria for a quick breakfast. Emma explained that she had transferred to Nadia's college for her sociology program, which thrilled Nadia to no end.
Later that day, as Nadia and Emma were walking across the college grounds, they encountered a group of seniors known for their pranks and ragging of new students. The seniors, spotting Nadia's distinct attire and Emma's confident stride, decided to single them out.
"Hey, look who we have here!" one of the seniors called out, his tone mocking.
Nadia's heart sank as she recognized the leader of the group, known for his brash attitude and disdain for freshmen. Before they could react, Aaron appeared from the crowd, his football jersey unmistakable. His presence seemed to deflate the tension slightly, but the seniors weren't backing down.
Aaron stepped forward, his voice firm. "Leave them alone. They're not freshmen."
The seniors exchanged glances, weighing their options. Finally, with grudging reluctance, they dispersed, muttering under their breaths. Nadia let out a shaky breath, grateful for Aaron's intervention.
"Thanks, Aaron," Nadia said softly, her voice tinged with relief.
Aaron smiled reassuringly. "No problem. They can be a handful sometimes."
That evening, as Nadia and Emma sat in Emma's dorm room, sipping on hot chocolate, Nadia felt a surge of courage to share her thoughts with Emma. She admired Aaron not just for his bravery but also for his kindness and genuine nature.
"Emma, I think I have a crush on Aaron," Nadia confessed, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Emma grinned mischievously. "I knew it! You two would make a great pair."
Nadia laughed nervously, the reality of her feelings sinking in. "Do you think he likes me back, though?"
Emma considered this for a moment, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, he did come to your rescue today. That's definitely a good sign."
Nadia blushed deeper, her mind racing with possibilities. "I guess I'll have to wait and see."
Emma nodded knowingly. "Just be yourself, Nadia. If he's worth it, he'll see how amazing you are."
Despite the positive developments in her college life, Nadia's personal happiness was occasionally overshadowed by a recurring issue—her aunt, whom she privately referred to as the "witch aunt." Known for her sharp tongue and critical nature, Nadia's aunt never missed an opportunity to belittle her achievements and choices.
One weekend, during a family gathering, Nadia's aunt made a cutting remark about Nadia's appearance, prompting an uncomfortable silence among the relatives. Nadia's parents, sensing their daughter's distress, stepped in with unwavering support.
"Nadia is perfect just the way she is," Nadia's father said firmly, his voice carrying across the room.
Nadia's mother nodded in agreement, her expression protective. "We're proud of you, Nadia. Don't let anyone dim your light."
Their words were a balm to Nadia's wounded spirit, reinforcing her resolve to stay true to herself despite the negativity around her. She felt a surge of gratitude for her parents' unwavering love and support, which anchored her amidst life's uncertainties.
