The day after receiving the internship offer in New Zealand, Nadia's heart raced with excitement and anxiety. She barely slept the night before, her mind spinning with thoughts of what this opportunity could mean for her future. Now, as she sat at the dinner table with her family, the weight of sharing her news felt heavy.
Once they cleared the dishes, Nadia took a deep breath, gathering her courage. "Mom, Dad, can we talk for a moment? I have something important to share."
Her parents looked at her, curiosity and concern etched on their faces. "Of course, dear," her mother said gently.
Nadia's palms felt clammy as she spoke. "I found out this morning that I got an internship offer... in New Zealand."
Her father's brow furrowed, the fork in his hand pausing mid-air. "New Zealand? That's quite a distance," he said, his voice steady but laced with apprehension.
Nadia nodded, excitement battling her anxiety. "I thought I was applying locally, but they selected me for this incredible opportunity! It could really kickstart my career!"
Her mother's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "That sounds amazing, Nadia! You must be thrilled!"
But Nadia noticed her father's somber expression. "I am excited, but I'm also worried about the visa process and managing everything from so far away. And... I really don't want Aunt Hannah to find out."
Her father leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "You know Aunt Hannah will have a lot to say about this. If she finds out, she'll definitely try to put a stop to it. We can't let that happen."
"Exactly! She'll only see this as another chance to pressure me into conforming to her expectations," Nadia replied, her voice trembling slightly. "I just want to figure this out on my own."
His expression softened, but concern remained in his eyes. "I can't help but feel sad about you going so far away. But I want you to grow and seize this opportunity. You have so much potential."
Nadia felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. "Thank you, Dad. I promise I'll keep working hard. But please, let's keep this between us for now. I don't want her meddling in my plans."
He nodded, the weight of the situation evident in his demeanor. "Alright, but it won't be easy keeping it from her. Just remember, we're here to support you, no matter what."
As they continued their discussion, Nadia felt a sense of relief wash over her. Her father's understanding and willingness to keep Aunt Hannah in the dark gave her the freedom to navigate this chapter of her life on her own terms.
That evening, as she lay in bed, she reflected on the day's events. She was grateful for her father's support, even as she grappled with the emotional weight of her decision. The path ahead was uncertain, but she was ready to embrace the adventure that awaited her in New Zealand, knowing she had the love and support of her family behind her.
With renewed determination, she drifted off to sleep, her dreams filled with visions of new beginnings and the possibilities that lay ahead.
