The day after breaking the news to her family, Nadia felt a mixture of excitement and melancholy. To distract herself, she decided to go shopping with Aaron and Emma. They had planned this outing as a last hurrah before she left for New Zealand, and Nadia was determined to make the most of it.
As they strolled through the vibrant shopping district, laughter filled the air. Emma held up a vibrant floral dress, her eyes sparkling. "Nadia, this would look perfect on you! You have to try it on!"
Nadia laughed, feeling a twinge of joy. "Okay, but only if you both help me find something cute for the internship!" She moved toward the store's changing room, her heart lighter with every step.
Once inside, Emma and Aaron filled the small space with outfits, flipping through dresses and blouses. "What about this one?" Aaron held up a chic blazer that seemed professional yet stylish.
"Perfect! It screams 'I mean business,'" Nadia replied, her spirits lifting.
As she slipped into the clothes, her friends cheered her on, their playful banter echoing in the dressing room. "You're going to be the most fashionable intern New Zealand has ever seen!" Emma teased, peeking through the curtain.
After several outfit changes and much laughter, Nadia finally settled on a sleek blazer paired with a classy blouse and tailored trousers. She stepped out, feeling confident. "What do you think?"
Emma clapped her hands in delight. "You look amazing! This is so you!"
Aaron nodded, a hint of a smile on his lips. "You're ready to take on the world. Just remember us little people when you're a big-shot intern!"
They all burst into laughter, but underneath the humor lay a thread of sadness. The reality of Nadia's departure loomed over them like a shadow, and they couldn't ignore it.
As they wandered from store to store, Emma suddenly grew quiet. "I'm going to miss you, you know. It feels weird thinking about you being so far away."
Nadia's heart ached at her friend's words. "I'll miss you both so much. But we'll make sure to stay connected! Video calls, messages, all of it!"
"Yeah, but it's not the same as hanging out in person," Aaron said, his expression turning serious. "We've had so many great times together."
Nadia nodded, her smile faltering slightly. "I know. But think of all the adventures I'll have! And you two can come visit me, right?"
Emma perked up at the idea. "Definitely! I'd love to explore New Zealand with you. Just promise you'll send us tons of pictures."
"Deal! I'll document everything," Nadia promised, though a part of her felt guilty for leaving them behind.
After a few more stores and a final visit to their favorite café for coffee and pastries, they found a quiet bench to sit and talk. The sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the bustling street.
"Let's make a pact," Emma suggested, her tone serious. "No matter what, we support each other in our dreams. Even if it means being miles apart."
Nadia felt a rush of warmth at her friend's words. "Absolutely. This isn't goodbye; it's just a new chapter for all of us."
Aaron smiled, his eyes gleaming with determination. "And who knows? Maybe we'll end up doing internships abroad together someday."
They all laughed, feeling the weight of their shared dreams and the joy of friendship. Nadia looked at her friends, grateful for their unwavering support, even amidst the bittersweet reality of her upcoming departure.
As the evening progressed and they returned home, Nadia felt a mix of emotions swirling within her. The laughter, the teasing, and the shared memories filled her heart with joy, while the thought of leaving her friends behind brought a tinge of sadness.
But as she lay in bed that night, she reminded herself of the journey ahead. She was not just leaving; she was embarking on an adventure that would shape her future, with her friends cheering her on from afar.
