Pepper smiled and looked at everyone. Feeling a new sense of relief, happy to make new friends.

"Good morning, class! I would like you all to meet Pepper Garcia. She will be joining us for a while as her parents try to find a new house in Florida." Ms. Ellis said as she looked at me. "Would you like to share a fact about yourself? If not, you can just have a seat."
Pepper smiled. "I'll share one."
"Ahem, My name is Pepper Garcia! And I really like plants! I would like to be a botanist when I grow up."

Suddenly Pepper saw Collin in the back of the classroom. Slightly surprised he was in this class.
"A-And my goal is to be friends with everyone I meet! So... I hope we can get along well.."
she said and sat down in the back of the classroom, next to Collin.
"Hello."
She whispered and smiled.
"H-Hey.."
He muttered and looked away.

"And that's all for todays lesson, if you have any questions please come to me after school hours." The Teacher said and dismissed everyone once the bell rang.

"I didn't know you went to this school!"
Pepper said as she walked next to Collin.
"Mhm... yeah... I go here.."
He looked away.
"Hey, do you have any friends? I would like to know them so they can be my friends!" Pepper said.
"Uhm- yeah... I have a few... they all go here..." he muttered and looked at her in the eyes, for once.
"Uhm... so you like plants? I... I like plants too." He said and cracked a tiny smile.
"Woooooooahhh! Really? That's awesome! Plants are so cool! They are very similar to humans! It's kinda crazy actually..."
Pepper muttered and looked at him.
"Woah, your smiling as well! That's a first, for me anyway."

He scoffed.
"Well yeah, I'm a human so of course I can smile..."

"Rude..." she muttered and smiled. "What class do you have? I have anatomy."
"Anatomy? I have Spanish." Collin said and turned the corner.
"Bye."
Pepper tilted her head.
"Only a simple 'bye'? Dang.. that's harsh...."

Pepper ran down the stairs and opened the door to the garden.
"Hey, Hey, Hey.. Where are you going?"
Grandma asked and walked up next to her.
"I'm going to talk to the neighbor! He's my friend!"
"Oooooh- a new friend? Aw, that seems so fun.. how many friends do you have now?"
Grandma asked and fixed her hair.
"Uhm... last time I checked I had 174 friends.." pepper muttered, fixing her hair as well.
"Wow, just be safe, m'kay? He might be an alien!" Grandma said with a spooky voice.

"Oh grandma..."
Pepper sighed and went outside.
"Oh, hello!"
She smiled and climbed over the fence, sitting at the top before landing in his yard.
"C-Careful...."
He muttered, backing up lightly.
"Why did you jump over.. you could've stayed on your side..."
Collin blushed and looked away.

"Hm? I mean... I could've. But that would be boring. I wanna do something! Something friends do..!"
Pepper smiled.
"W-We could plant a flower.... My mom bought a few recently.. and we have to plant them... so..."
Collin muttered, looking at Pepper's short red hair.
"Oh! Yeah! Let's do that!"
She smiled and spun in a circle.

"So we have some flowers... we have orchids and a cecelia. What should we plant?"
Collin asked, with a bit more confidence. Trying to not be shy.
"Hmmm. Let's plant an orchid!" Pepper said with a big smile.

"Okay, let me go grab the orchid seeds, they are in the house... so stay here."

"Yessir!"

"Don't call me that—"

"Okay fine..."

Collin went inside. Coughing a little.
"Hmmm. Where is it."
He thought to himself before coming back out with the flower seeds.

"I got them."
Collin muttered and looked at Pepper. Admiring her simple skirt, long socks, hoodie, and of course her red hair.
"Let's do it!" She exclaimed and grabbed his hand, bringing him back to the fence.
"I found a spot in between our yards! We could plant the flower in between to symbolize our friendship..!"
She smiled and pointed to the spot.
"Okay we can do that.. but I have to ask.. why are you trying to be friends with everyone.."
Collin asked as she started to dig a hole.
"Oh—"
Her breath caught in her throat.
"As a kid... I... I was used by my 'friends'... so now I want to have a million friends... that won't hurt me."
She said softly and shrugged.
"I don't wanna go into detail..."
She somehow continued smiling.
Collin felt his heart break.
"I-I'm sorry-"
His voice cracked and he looked at her.
"It's fine... let's just focus on the flower!"
Pepper smiled and looked at the hole she dug.
"I can get some water. You put the seeds in the dirt!"
She said and ran off to the hose.

Pepper gently filled a cup with water, bringing it over to where Collin was.
"This is gonna be epic!"
She exclaimed, putting some water on the seed.

"Yeah, epic."
Collin repeated. Hesitating for a moment.

"H-Hey... do you need a hug?"

"..."

Pepper smiled softly and just hugged him, feeling his warmth.

"O-Oh..."
He blushed and hugged her back.
