[Jailah's P.O.V.]
Music blared through the speakers and people hopped up and down holding their red solo cups in the air. With every jump they made alcohol spilt from their cups and onto the floor. It smelt of beer and sweat. Not a good mix.Just within the hour of being here I'd been jostled around about twenty times. And fast forward to now that is why I am sitting on a couch next to no one. I don't like people and that's that. I hadn't had anything to drink since I was underage. There was no way I would lay a finger on a bottle of alcohol. No way.
Just as I was about to dip and leave the party Kaitlyn 's familiar fiery red hair made an appearance through the crowd of bobbing people. She saw me and her face immediately lit up, "Jailah!" She squealed. It had been obvious she'd had a bit to drink due to the slight slurring of her words. She plopped down next to me on the couch and offered me her cup of beer. I politely shook my head no and decided to make some friendly banter.
"How are you?" I asked.
"Good, what about you?" She giggled.
"Decent," I sighed. I'd came here thinking I would be able to escape my reality but man, I was wrong. It seemed everywhere I looked I saw my father, or mother's face. Or I would hear Clarence's all too familiar laugh. It was haunting. I figured that having a conversation with someone would allow me to forget about it all but that wasn't seeming to happen.
Suddenly, I heard a roar or laughter boom through the room, making me peer up at the tall framed man. His curly hair was secured tightly with a aquamarine ball cap. He let out another bellow of laughter but I was brought back to reality when a random guy grinded his hips right in front of my face.
"Ew, get away from me! You perve!" I exclaimed throwing my weight to the back of the couch cushion. He didn't take the comment as a hint to stop and instead placed his hands upon my shoulders and began inching his crotch closer to my face. With all the force I had in me I pushed him away causing him to drunkenly stumble backwards a few feet. But he immediately came back and resumed his retched, disgusting actions.
"I know you like me," he spoke with a filthy smirk.
"I said get away from me!" I screamed, shoving him back once more. But, it was no use.
I watched as a man immediately changed from his calm demeanor to one full of rage. He took the man by the collar of his shirt and shoved him backwards. The man who had harassed me was now lying still as a statue on the floor.
"Stop harassing her! Got it!" The man screamed in his face. My harasser meekly nodded as he stared up at the man with eyes full of terror. Kaitlyn and I both rose to our feet, neither of us daring to move even a muscle. The man with the aquamarine ball cap turned around, his kind eyes meeting mine. My lips parted at the familiar face, it was the same guy I'd seen at the breakfast place. The man made his way back over to us and quickly apologized for the scene.
"No, it's fine. Thank you, though," I smiled.
"It's the least I could do. He's a complete ass hole to women when he's drunk, I'm sorry," he looked down at me. His eyes ran over my face like he was analyzing an interesting article of sorts. "Hey, I know you from somewhere, don't I?" The question caught me completely off guard.
"Yeah, I recognize you too," I smiled. Kaitlyn rose from beside me and disappeared within the crowd more than likely to dance. Leaving me with no one but me, myself, and I.
