You leaned back against the cool surface of the classroom counter, arms crossed, letting your thoughts drift back to that fateful night. The memories were as clear as if they'd happened yesterday.

"It's been almost a year since the First Light, but it still feels like yesterday," you began, your voice quiet but firm. The image of your mentor and uncle, Dexter Mccree, filled your mind—a gunslinger with a mission. "He was always focused on his goal: wiping out the cartel that was tearing Rabat apart. They controlled everything—police, politicians—and spread chaos wherever they went." Your voice faltered, a tear slipping down your cheek as you remembered.

Jamie, a dark-skinned boy with a short afro, leaned in from the desk where he sat across from you, his eyes wide with curiosity. "Did he... y'know, die?"

You sighed, the weight of the memory pressing down on you. "Yeah, pretty much. He wasn't moving, wouldn't wake up." You hesitated, wondering if you should continue. "You sure you want to hear this, Jamie? It gets pretty rough, kinda sad..." You trailed off, more for your own sake than his. You weren't sure you were ready to relive it all, but you knew you had to get it out.

Jamie gave a half-smile, trying to lighten the mood. "I burnt down my theater school before I got here. That was pretty rough too."

You managed a small smile in return. "Guess you understand, then. Alright..." You shifted your weight, getting more comfortable on the counter, and let the memories take over

The night was dark, a crescent moon casting a faint glow over the landscape. The air was heavy with humidity, a drop of sweat trickling down your neck. You and Dexter stood before the gateway to a cartel-owned manor, both of you cloaked in black. Dexter's trench coat billowed slightly, his cowboy hat and ghost mask giving him an ominous presence.

Dexter gave you a boost, and you peered over the gate, scanning the area. "Two guys, by the cars," you whispered down to him. "We can take one out."

Dexter nodded, his voice strained from holding you up. "Good thinking."

When the guards turned away, you seized the moment. "Now!" you quietly shouted, and with a heave, Dexter lifted you over the gate. You landed with a grunt but caught yourself before you fell. Dexter was over the gate in a flash, and the two of you crept toward the cars, sticking to the shadows.

----------------

"Dexter always said killing should have a purpose," you explained to Jamie, your gaze distant. "He believed if you didn't have a reason, you were no better than the ones you were fighting."

Jamie frowned, trying to understand. "But why did he want you to kill in the first place? Couldn't he just teach you how to use a gun without actually lighting people up with it?"

You chuckled softly, remembering your own confusion at the time. "I asked him the same thing. He told me it was about justice. These cartel guys we were hunting, they killed my parents. He said I needed to know how to protect myself if I wanted to survive."

Jamie's eyes widened. "So, you and Dexter were like vigilantes?"

"We were," you admitted, a hint of pride in your voice. "He never hurt the innocent, only the ones who committed their evil without remorse.

-----------------

You tapped on the car with your knife to get the attention of one of the cartel minions, who turned around swiftly in paranoia, and rightly so. Word of the failed operations and attacks on the cartel spread quickly, giving the people hope and some mysterious someone to root for.
