You felt the weight of Dexter's prized pistol in your hand, you turned it over in your hands, inspecting it, grinning your fingers through the grooves of the frame. Gunpowder was still on the front of the barrel and dust had settled in between the small nooks and crannies. You hadn't seen it in nearly a year, but, you were glad it was only collecting dust and hadn't been destroyed. Now you have a Memento to truly remember Dexter by.
"That's yours?" Reyna said, brushing up next to you. You subtly moved to the side, creating a tiny gap between you. It was nothing personal, but you weren't going to act like she didn't just kill someone and shrug it off like it was nothing.
"It belonged to my uncle, or... my mentor. Remember? I told you about him in the mess hall." You said, cooly. You looked up, Amir was on comms with Moebius, who was currently on his way back from picking up Jamie from his cell.
"Si... Dexter, right?" Reyna asked for confirmation.
"Yeah... the radianite explosions killed him. But it empowered me... I want to find out why." You said. Despite all of this, you still had questions, and if you wanted to find out why some died during the first light, and why others lived and became 'Radiants'.
Reyna nodded, then opened her mouth to say something, but, Amir's voice cut her off, "Hey, Y/N! Moebius has Jamie, he is en Route."
"Yes!" you said with excitement. It had been too long since you had seen Jamie.
"Alright, we're moving out now. Follow me," Amir instructed, turning to lead the way.
You and Reyna followed Amir down the hallways, trying to stay as silent as possible. Your heart pounded with every step, anticipation, and anxiety mixing into a cocktail of fear and determination.
"When we meet up with Moebius, you will follow him to the chopper, understand?"
You slowly nodded, frowning slightly, "What about you?"
"I have to get my equipment from my office, I will meet you all there." He explained. You two followed him farther down the winding corridors and hallways of the facility, best case scenario, you wouldn't run into any security up here.
"Where are all of the guards?" Reyna asked skeptically.
"Not here, that's all you need to know," Cypher replied quickly.
"How do you know there aren't any here?" You butted in.
"Because I am this facilities' overseer, meaning I am in charge of the security, and making sure the operations run smoothly, that includes the arrival of new radiants. So to answer your question..." He trailed off, slowing to a stop to check an upcoming corner, after he determined it was all clear, he kept moving forward. "I strategically placed all guards near every door and exit where all of you Radiants are kept. And I convinced the higher-ups that if I secured all points of entry, no security is needed here."
"Hm, you're smart," Reyna said. Amir gave a small chuckle.
"Thank you." He said. We finally reached what looked like a waiting room. Vending machines against the walls opposite of each other, the chairs lining the walls beside them. You noticed the chairs were collecting dust too, indicating that these seats were rarely used.
Amir touched a finger to his ear. "Moebius? Where are you? We don't have all day."
You squeezed the handle of your new weapon, then brought it, pressing the button to release the magazine and cocking it to the side, allowing the mag to roll out to the side. You only counted 3 bullets, meaning this gun hasn't been fired or reloaded since that fateful day.
