After you and Reyna's talk, and the whole fiasco that took place between you and the guards, the day thankfully went on like normal. While waiting for the 'Doctors' and Scientists to come in for your routine blood tests, you would always sit in the sunlight by the window. It sends a warm feeling of calm throughout your body, and it helps you clear your mind and calm down. It was always short-lived as time seemed to fly by faster when you sat in the sun, but you enjoyed every second.
When you were alone you had a quick chat with Amir, he informed you that he can't talk long because he has to prepare for a meeting today.
By nightfall, They had you and a few others whose radiance fell into the "offensive" category It was a change of pace from the usual day around here, but it was still human experimentation.
You quickly showered afterward, alternating the temperature between hot and cold; apparently, it helps with sore muscles. Soon enough, you found yourself comfortable in your bunk. The middle window separating the boys' and girls' sides had just been cleaned and raised; it was so clear it was like it wasn't there at all.
You and Reyna waited patiently for all of your bunkmates to go to sleep, as right now most of them were all up socializing quietly in their bunks or off giggling at the far ends of the room. You took consistent deep breaths in and out, prepping yourself. Amir didn't know about your plan with Reyna, so if you got caught...
You and Reyna occasionally exchanged glances, silently reminding each other to stay ready. Over half an hour later, the lights shut off, plunging the room into a dim darkness, the only light coming from under the secured door.It was another hour and a half before the others went to sleep. You glanced over to Reyna, who was slowly shuffling under her bunk. You slowly sat up and took a deep breath, it was time.
Next thing you knew, you were crawling in the spacious vents with Reyna, quickly and quietly making your way to your destination. The air was thick with anticipation as you thought of what the near future held. The possibility of getting caught terrified you, and the thought that Jamie could be wheeled into one of these rooms unconscious sent a wave of unease through your mind.
Eventually, the two of you reached the grate and looked down through it. A few moments of silence passed, and you began to wonder what Reyna was waiting for, but just as you opened your mouth, the sliding door slid open with a hiss, and out came a group of scientists and doctors, followed closely by security detail.
"Let's hope that's all of them," Reyna said in a low whisper.
You squinted your eyes. "What if it isn't?"
She looked at you blankly for a moment before responding. "Guess we'll find out." She crawled around the grate and stopped next to you. "Ready?" she asked.
You nodded, and with a small heave, you pushed the grate down, the hinges catching it and making a small creaking noise.
You looked down to the floor, "Ladies first."
She gave an amused scoff. "Cobarde." She dropped down. You had no idea what she said, but you smirked and dropped down after her.
As soon as your feet hit the floor, your smile faded, and you stood up, investigating the curved hallway. All clear. Reyna quickly heaved the vent grate back into place, then checked the opposite direction and gave you a thumbs up a moment later. It was suspicious, but you wouldn't waste any time worrying about it. You wanted to get in and out as soon as possible.
