September 1997 - Hogwarts

Draco and I had been together for arguably four years. We were friends for about five months, then secretly dating for about six months. Then on a break for a year and a half. Then we secretly dated again for eight months. After all the craziness of our relationships, we had only been public for one month. But through all of that, we had never really been on a date. We had never gone out to dinner or to a movie. We've hung out and all, but we've never gone out. Seeing as we had just gone public, it was my eighteenth birthday, and it was our final year at Hogwarts, the stars aligned for the perfect time to have our first date.

I put on the dress and felt utterly amazing. Jane was fixing my hair. Clueless had been on our minds, so she gave me a Cher Horowitz-style blowout while quoting the movie. When the look was completed, I stared in the mirror, in love with myself...in a not self-obsessed way. It just felt good to feel somewhat good about my life. For the first time in a long time, I was honest and open. No cheating, no hiding, and no lying.

"Damnit," I said when I noticed something.

"What?" Jane asked.

"My mark," I said. "Draco doesn't like it to be seen."

"Do you have a nice jacket?" Jane asked.

"I can't wear a jacket in a restaurant, that's weird," I argued.

"Well, here," she said, grabbing some makeup.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"You can cover it with makeup," she said, using foundation to completely cover it.

"Genius," I said.

"Hey, I have an idea," she said. "He's waiting in the common room. Do you wanna use the door to apparate to the dorm, that way you can walk down the big staircase."

"Oh my god," I said. "Just like in the movies."

"Exactly," she agreed. "Remember that one time at the Yule Ball when we came down the stairs and he saw you and he was totally blown away."

"Yeah, except this time he won't be on a date with Pansy," I laughed. "Oh speaking of Pansy, if we apparate to the dorm we might have to deal with her."

"We'll be quick," she said. "And if she talks to us, we can just ignore her."

"I don't think I can do that," I said. "If she says something stupid I might just jump on her."

"Valid," said Jane. "Just think about your hair. I worked hard on it, don't mess it up."

"Okay," I said as we excitedly approached the door. "Slytherin girls dorm," I announced to the door, hand on the handle. We walked in, and of course, she was right there. But we avoided eye contact. After the door had closed behind us, we swiftly opened it again to be able to walk down the stairs. But not without Pansy's interference.

"Where are you going dressed so fancy, Snape?" Jane and I stopped in the door frame. I gritted my teeth.

"Don't do it," Jane said softly. "Grace, don't do it." I felt like I had been holding back a fight with Pansy since the first day I met her.

I felt like my time at Hogwarts wouldn't be complete if I didn't get into at least one fight with Pansy.

"I can't," I said. "Jane, I've been holding it in for four years."

"Think of your hair," Jane said. "Cher Horowitz would be so proud of your hair."

"What are you muttering about, muggle lovers?" I gritted my teeth even harder.
