McGee's POV

I hated leaving Y/N like that. The look on her face was burned into my brain as I headed into the office. I walked over to my desk and dropped my bag.

"What's with you?" Bishop asked as I sat down.

"Trouble in paradise, McHappy?" Tony asked.

"Y/N and I got in a fight this morning," I grumbled.

"Baby fight?" Tony asked, his tone changing.

"Baby fight?" Bishop repeated. "What's the baby fight?"

"Y/N and I have been married for three years," I explained. "She's always wanted kids, but we've been waiting to have kids because of my job. I guess she's. . . She's getting impatient."

"I'm sorry, man," Tony said with absolutely no teasing in his voice.

"I'm just. . . I'm worried. It's been causing a little tension. I don't want to lose her. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I can't lose her. I definitely can't risk something happening to our baby. What if I can't protect her and our kids?"

"Come on, McGee," Bishop said lightly. "You wouldn't let anything happen to Y/N or your future children. Besides, you have us to help keep them safe."

We let the conversation drop as we went back to work. Right before our shift ended, we got the call.

"Grab your gear."

"What do we got?" Tony asked.

"A woman was just attacked," Gibbs said. "Someone broke into her home."

"This woman in the Navy?" DiNozzo asked.

"Her husband is," Gibbs said, sending me a side glance that made my stomach sick.

"What's the address?"

My heart stopped as I heard the address. "McGee? What's wrong?" Bishop asked.

"That's my house," I mumbled.

"What?" DiNozzo and Bishop asked in sync.

"The woman attacked is Tim's wife, Y/N," Gibbs clarified. "One of his neighbors called it in. Metro called us when they realized she's the wife of an NCIS agent."

* * * * *

I opened the door with my gun instantly raised. I wanted to call out to her but I knew that wasn't the best thing to do. Especially if that guy was still here.

"It's okay," Gibbs whispered. "Call out to her."

"But. . ."

"The neighbor said she saw someone running away."

"Y/N!" I yelled. "Where are you?"

"Tim?" I heard weakly from our bedroom. I put my gun in my holster and ran upstairs. My heart jumped into my throat when I finally found Y/N hiding in our walk-in closet. I collapsed to my knees in front of her and gently pulled her into my arms.

"It's okay, baby," I whispered. "I'm right here. You're okay."

My entire body tightened when Y/N began to sob into my chest. She was trying to tell me what happened but it was hard to make it out in between her sobs.

"McGee?"

I looked over my shoulder to see Gibbs, Tony, and Bishop all watching from the bedroom.

"Ducky came," Gibbs continued softly. "When he heard it was Y/N, he insisted on coming and seeing if she was okay."
