"Mommy!" a little girl shouted as I ran towards her crumpled body. She was lying beneath a concrete pillar that had collapsed onto her during the shooting. As I was walking away from the wreckage I heard the soft cry.Somehow, I needed to get her out of there. I ran towards the little girl and grabbed her hand gently which was sticking up from beneath the rubble.
"Mommy?" she questioned, unable to see with dust in her eyes.
"Shhh, I'm here to help you. I'll help you out and then we can find your mom," you said softly. Her arm relaxed slightly as she gripped your hand and you smiled a bit.
Now that she was reassured, you worked to roll the broken pieces of cement off of her, one by one. It had shattered thankfully, so you didn't have to lift one big pillar, but you bet the chunks had dealt some serious damage to the girl themselves.
She cried out as you lifted off an especially heavy piece, underneath it was dried and pooling blood, her ribs probably broken.
"Am I gonna die here?" she asked you. Her voice was crackly and her throat sounded raw with tears and dust. You choked up as you looked at the poor girl.
"Not before you see your mom," you promised. You pressed your back and shoulders into the final piece, pushing against the ground as you heaved it off of her chest. She screamed as it rolled off and to the other side. Then, she cried for a bit. You knelt beside her and wiped her tears away as they came and went.
"See, you were so brave. Now let's find your mom." The girl nodded slowly and she held an arm over her ribs as you helped her sit up. "This might hurt a bit," you warned as you hoisted her onto your back to carry her away from the scene.
As you walked further away, the girl began to lose her grip on your shoulders and her breathing picked up.
"What direction did your mommy run in?" you asked her. She pointed weakly to your right and you began to run with her on your back in that direction.
As you ran, you saw many frantic people as they glanced your way. It was quite a sight with the both of you covered in blood by now. But you kept going. The little girl's head rested against. the back of your neck as you searched desperately before a pale woman cried out.
"My daughter!! You found her!" she cried as you ran towards her.
"Mommy?" the girl questioned, her voice fading away.
"I'm here sweetie, I'm so sorry I left you. I love you," the woman whispered while holding the girl's face. You slowly set her down, leaning against the doorframe of the building the woman had emerged out of.
"Mommy, I love you too and I always will," the little girl managed to get out as she looked sleepy.
"Please stay with me, don't go away," the woman cried as she begged her daughter. You watched and shed a tear as the little girl lay to rest against the wall of her home supposedly. You had fulfilled your promise at least and she had gotten to see her mom one last time before her death. But she was too young to die.
The woman held onto her and you stepped away silently. This was your doom and your destiny. You shook your head before a hand covered your mouth and you were knocked out suddenly.

Coming to was one of the more painful experiences of this trip. Your head was pounding and the lights made your vision hazy, but you could still smell the rotten air of the outside. You had not been captured by WCKD. But if it wasn't them, then who was it?
