In heart-stopping waves of hurt
I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze

Tell me what are my words worth"

Chapter Fifteen:

"Alright, Ellie, I've had just about enough of this. James, Lydia, and I have been best friends since we were born, and you're not going to come between us. Not you, and certainly not Jasper Wellington. Whatever scheme you've cooked up this time is just a waste of everyone's time, including your own. For someone who wants to go to Billot in Oxford with James, you don't have the brains, even if your parents pay for a new library. I hate to say such things—I'm not usually this harsh—but you just bring it out in me. Trust me, the bitch is in there...provoke me enough, Ellie." I scowled at her.

"Look at you, queen of the world Everly Calloway, since before you could spell your own last name. I have to say, Everly, this jealous side of you is quite something. You pretend to be such a nice girl, but you're really not. You're just like the rest of us. You're just like your father: what you want, you get, no matter the cost to others. In a parallel universe I could've even saw us being great friends." Ellie shot back at me.

"You think this is jealousy? Ha! Jealous of what Ellie. James is mine. He has been since we were children. You see the way he looks at me...do you honestly think you could ever change that?" I couldn't help but laugh in her face. "In fact...James Beaufort might be the only one whose ever seen every single side of me and chose to stay. Chose to go deeper...good, bad or ugly. That boy has loved me in times when I didn't deserve it and kissed me in moments when it seemed like his eyes were the only light in this dark existence. Don't even try to pretend you know anything about what James and I have." I said about to turn back toward the house.

"Calloway, you can't honestly think you're going to live happily ever after? For such a smart girl...for the girl who's going to Billot...you are one naive bitch." Ellie sneered back at me. "I never got Alistair's letter. But Jasper... he got one for Cyril. How's that for knowing your circle so well? If Cyril could turn on his best mate, why wouldn't James turn on you?" Ellie's eyes sparkled as she saw the discomfort in mine at the mention of Jasper's name.

"Raise your voice at me one more time...I would like us to not alert the entire house staff of your arrival." I shook my head at her as we walked further into the yard, reaching the edge of the clearing in the woods where my grandfather's property ended. What what Ellie talking about? What she really trying to tell me all of this had been caused by Cyril? How on earth could I believe that?
