-20 YEARS LATER-
Y/n told the organizers how to set up the chair and microphones. What water to add to the side in case he needed to drink and the screen behind it. She set up the name plate in front of it before heading to the entrance to let all the reporters in and welcome them into their respective seats.
Looking at her watch she groaned. 'He's late,' she thought as she headed towards the entrance, deciding to wait for him there. She paced around as some fans arrived and waited on the sides of the hallway inside excited to see him. She looked one last time at her watch before hearing Kenji's motorcycle arrive. She sighed with relief as she approached him.
"You're late." she first said as he handed her his helmet which she gave to the valet.
"Not even a kiss hello?" He asked leaning into her, making flashes of fans run wild. After rumors of her and Kenji dating they seemed to always be ready to take photos of them together.
She rolled her eyes as she flicked his forehead making him chuckle and rub the spot she hit.
"Come on hurry." She said walking in front of him. The flashes instantly concentrated on Kenji as he made his way towards the inside.
Y/n pointed at his seat but warned him with a glare to tone down his ego before he got in front of the microphones. She stood on the side away from the stage as the interview began.
''Thanks for waiting Folks.'' he commented as he sat down. ''All right, who's first?''
'I do it for the fans.'
'It's all about fundamentals.'
'No, no, no. What I said was, I am the greatest "living" player.'
'Well, Otani can say whatever he likes.'
'Aw, that's too sweet. Thank you.'
'I love baseball. It's all I've got.'
'Bone broth and wheat grass, bro.'
'Bro. Bro. Bro!'
'The rookie? This ain't tee-ball, bro.'
''American players are very different.'' asked one interviewer. ''How are you adjusting to the Japanese style of play?''
''Itou-san, right? Baseball is baseball, man. The Ken Sato show is the same. Here, the States, wherever.''
Y/n subtly rolled her eyes as she controlled his schedule on her phone.
''Mr. Sato. Why did you come back to Japan?'' one particular interviewer asked.
''I...I'm sorry. What's your name?'' Y/n looked up from her phone, she noticed his little break.
''Ami Wakita.'' she answered
'Hold up. Hold up. You're the Tigers fan, right?'' He asked, making everyone laugh.
''The question isn't who I root for, Mr. Sato. The question is why, on the verge of your first championship, you choose to walk away and start over. Some suggest it was emotional stress. Due to family...or maybe even romance.'' she finished the phrase as her eyes slightly tuned to look at Y/n, who stared straight up at her a tad annoyed.
''This is baseball. Not gossip hour.'' another interviewer said.
''Guys! Play nice, okay?'' Kenji interrupted. ''I'm happy to answer the question.
Miss Wakita, please continue.''
''Thank you. Some speculate your departure was connected to the loss of your mother,
