🍂 — pretty little sheep and prada bags
"𝐌𝐎𝐌, 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐎 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐘?"
"Well, when two people love each other they-"
"Mom." Ivy gave her mom a pointed look. She and her mother were both working on their homework at the kitchen table. Ivy was barely making any progress on her chemistry homework, tugging on her hair in frustration.
"I'm sorry sweetie, but mommy didn't graduate high school."
Ivy groaned. "But didn't you like learn this before you were pregnant?"
"I was a little busy with pregnancy cravings and dealing with your grandma." Lorelai smirked.
"Where is Rory when you need her?" she complained.
It seems that the gods answered Ivy's prayers, because the second after she said that Rory appeared in the doorway.
"Speak of the devil." Ivy chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief.
"I'm coming out." Rory announced.
"Aw, I'm proud of you." Ivy smiled. "Now help me with my chem homework."
"Sorry, you're coming out of what?" Lorelai asked.
"Out into society." Rory announced.
Lorelai looked at her daughter confused. "What are you talking about?"
"I went to grandma's house after school."
"Okay, right away, bad." Lorelai guessed.
"And, um, her DAR friends are all there and they're talking about this debutante ball that's being thrown."
"Oh no." Lorelai winced. Ivy gasped, sitting up straighter. She rushed over to her sister and crashed into her.
"Oh, I'm so excited for you!" she exclaimed, enveloping Rory in a warm embrace. While Rory continued to explain the entire situation to Lorelai, Ivy's attention was captivated by Rory's dress.
Ivy had participated in her own debutante ball the previous year. She fondly remembered the joy and the memories she had created. Although it might not seem like Rory's style, Ivy was confident that Rory would enjoy it nonetheless.
Ivy began muttering to herself, brainstorming ideas for Rory's dress. It had to be perfect; otherwise, their grandmother would never approve of it. Ivy had wanted to design her own dress for her debutante ball, but Emily had insisted on purchasing one for her granddaughter. Despite the slim chances, Ivy was determined to create a dress for her sister.
"I'm getting you out of this," Lorelai said, reaching for the phone. Ivy immediately intervened, slamming the phone back down. Lorelai stared at her, the two locked in a silent standoff.
"Come on, Mom. It will be good for her," Ivy pleaded.
"Yeah, I'm doing this," Rory affirmed.
"Why?"
"Because you should've seen the look on Grandma's face when she asked me. It's just really really important to her."
Lorelai tried to interject but Rory cut her off. "Now if it's that important to her, and it's not that important to me, then why shouldn't I do it?"
Lorelai rolled her eyes. "Rory, do you know what a coming of age party says?"
"It says I'm a woman now."
