At Maya's house later that night

Lucas knocked on the door, and Maya's mom answered.

K: Hey Lucas.

L: Hi Miss Hart. Is Maya here?

K: Yeah, she's in her room. You can head on back there.

L: Okay, thanks.

K: Hold up, Lucas. Do you know what's wrong with Maya? She hasn't said anything since she got home.

L: She's still not talking?

K: No, what happened?

L: Something happened in class today, and she hasn't talked since.

K: Well, can you convince her to talk?

L: I'll try.

Lucas went to Maya's room and saw her sitting on her bed staring off into space.

L: Hey.

Maya didn't even move.

L: Hello? Maya?

She still didn't move. Lucas was starting to get worried. He went and sat down next to her. He tapped her shoulder, and she finally looked at him.

L: You okay?

Maya nodded, and Lucas gave her a very unimpressed look.

L: Maya, you're gonna have to talk again at some point.

M: Lucas, I told you. The class voted. A votes a vote.

L: Yeah, with politics, not when it comes to when you talk.

M: I know, but it's hard when you find out that a bunch of people you've known forever actually hate you.

L: I know.

Lucas pulled her closer and hugged her. They sat there for a minute. When they stopped hugging, Maya put her head on Lucas's shoulder. That's when Lucas remembered his plan. He thought about it for a minute and decided to just ask her the important question rather than set a whole thing up.

Maya clearly wasn't in the mood to do anything. He decided to do something small, though, so it wasn't just in her room, and it would be something at least a little bit memorable.

L: Hey, follow me.

Maya followed Lucas as he climbed out her window and went to the top of Maya's building.

M: Lucas, what are we doing up here?

L: Maya, I really like you, I've never liked anyone this much before. Will you be my girlfriend?

Maya stood there for a minute, looking at Lucas, who was holding her hands smiling but looking really nervous at the same time. Then she looked at the view and smiled at Lucas.

M: Yes, I would love to be your girlfriend. But don't think this is gonna make me talk.

L: Let's make a deal. You don't have to talk during class. Just at lunch and when we're not at school.

M: Deal.

They looked at the view and then kissed. It was a very romantic kiss. They both knew they were meant for each other, but neither of them wanted to say anything because of Riley.

A/n sorry for the short chapter, guys 😕

I have a really good idea for the next chapter, and I'm super excited. It should be a long chapter, but if not, it will get cut into 2 chapters.

I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do! It'll be quite a surprise!
