Day Five

Monty

Nick barged in, followed closely by Riley, who gave me an apologetic smile.

They both carried a few bags. I assume they were for the kitten.

“Look, we got the litter and the box, but we were like, what if she doesn't have food, a bowl, or toys for the kitten? And I knew you didn't because you probably didn't think ahead, so we got everything,” Nick said, grinning widely at Y/n as he handed her a bag.

With wide eyes, Y/n took the bag and gingerly pulled out a double bowl set, attached with what must have been cat toys.

A smile spread across her face. “Thank you, guys… just give me the receipt and I'll pay back what was spent.”

“Psh, pay us back by hanging out after work tonight. Riley and I are having a little party and we want you to come.” Nick said, cocking his head.

I felt the urge to strangle him.

I was feeling fine until he showed up.

And now he's pressuring her to go to his party. Y/n has the freedom to do as she pleased, but the idea of her going to some party worried me.

She even seemed to hesitate but ultimately nodded. “Sure? I haven't been to a party since I was like 16…”

Her expression soured as she recalled her teenage years. I was curious though—what was she like back then? What got her to stop going?

“Don't worry, it won't be anything big. Just a small little thing.” Riley assured Y/n.

And me, though they didn't need to know that.

Still annoying, though.

With a bit more force than I intended, I tore one of the bags from Nick's hand. I didn't really feel the need to apologize. The kid still angered me.

I could feel him glaring at me, but I ignored it and searched the bag.

Inside was a real litterbox. Perfect.

Tossing the plastic bag aside, I set the box behind the trash can as Princess suggested, trying to keep it hidden from kids but still easy for the kitten to reach.

Satisfied with my placement, I stood up and noticed Y/n looking at the floor, flustered.

What made her so nervous?

Nick had a knowing smirk but remained silent.

Good. His voice was annoying anyway.

Riley cleared their throat and dug into a different bag. “I wasn't sure what kind to get, but this walnut one seemed like a decent choice.” They said, handing me the bag of litter, struggling with its weight. It was heavy, but I took it from their grasp with ease.

Ripping open the top, I looked to Y/n and asked, “How much do I pour?”

“Just enough to cover the bottom, I think… like enough for the kitten to bury its poop…” she said, clearly unsure herself.

I nodded and began to pour the litter into the box, careful not to spill any. Dust wafted up as it went into the box.

I stopped when I felt there was enough and set the bag of litter next to the box.

My hands were covered in litter dust, and I tried my best to shake it off.

“Here you go,” Nick handed Y/n another bag, this one containing a weird shovel, a water bottle, and a small bag of kitten food.
