Chapter 47

Y/n pov

Heading to the only place that came to mind, you instantly knew Monty was there when you heard the soft strum of his bass.

Approaching quietly, he didn't seem to notice your presence, so you stood there for a moment, listening to him play.

It's a song you'd heard before, one you'd never picture him singing. But, the way he sang it was.. well, you had no words. But it was pleasant.

“I'm only a fool for you
And maybe you're too good for me…”

“But I don't fuckin’ care, I don't fuckin’ care…” he sang the last lyric and ceased his strumming.

You didn't think he had noticed you, so it caught you off guard when his head turned just enough to catch your gaze.

“Monty…” you spoke, your voice dry, “I’m so—” you tried to apologize, but he stopped you.

“Y/n, just…” his eyes conflicted, he let out a soft sigh,  before continuing, “Stop. You have nothing to apologize for.” He set his instrument aside.

You had a hard time believing him. “But, I broke my promise…”

“I know. But it's fine.” He stood up now, fully facing you.

You could tell he wanted to avoid this, but you still wanted to apologize. Plus, despite his stubbornness, you could see he was bothered.

Narrowing your eyes, you said, “Okay, but I still need to apologize. I was waiting for you to answer, I swear, but then Luke started talking to me, and I got distracted. When I realized you had messaged back, I rushed to reply…”

He curled his lip at the mention of Luke, his eyes darkening.

But still, he only denied being mad. “Like I said, It's fine. Let's just forget about it…”

He was insisting, but his denial sparked something in you. If he wasn't mad, then why did he ignore you?

“You really aren't mad? Because you seem mad.” You placed your hands on your hips, giving him one last chance to be honest.

“No, Y/n, I'm not mad. Stop pushing it. Let's just continue on with the day.” He pursed his lips, clearly getting impatient.

But if he wasn't gonna admit he was mad, then you would. Because you were mad. If he wasn't mad, he would have answered you. He wouldn't have ignored you, even if you ignored him first. He hasn't even explained why he chose to ignore you, even if you accidentally ignored him first.

So you blew up. “Okay, well then why did you ignore me when I tried to answer you?” you asked. “Because all night, I felt like you were mad at me.” Your voice rising, you continued, “I literally slept on a bathroom floor waiting for you to answer. So if you aren't mad, then you were just ignoring me for no reason.”  You crossed your arms angrily.

“You ignored me first—” he defended.

“No, it took you forever to even reply to my initial message.”

He hesitated. “I– was checking on my bandmates. I didn't see your message right away. But you ignored me for hours! Just to talk to some ex-boyfriend.”

“I thought you weren't mad about it, though? And what does him being my ex have anything to do about it?”

Why would he care if you hung around an ex anyways?

“I'm not. You're the one who won't just move on from this stupid argument. And nothing. I just think a friend should be a tad more important than an ex who literally admitted to being a sleazy fuck,” Monty hissed.
