I sit high up in a tree, holding a half-eaten apple in my mouth while throwing knives at the tree on the other side of the path. My legs are outstretched as I lean against the trunk, pausing my knife-throwing briefly so that I can take a bite out of the apple.
I hear footsteps approaching and I freeze in place, only moving my jaw to chew the apple. I look down through the leaves and groan softly when I see who it is.
"Young L/N, I know you're up there! Could you please come down? Aizawa sent me to get you, he would like to talk to you!"
"Tell him that if he wants to talk he'll have to bring his sorry ass down here, because I'm not moving!"
Allmight sighs, sounding a little annoyed. "L/N, please. I already walked all the way down here, and surely you're starting to run out of feathers to throw."
"Not even close! I'm only a third of the way through these things!"
"Fine, but I hope you know he's already angry with you, and this won't help his mood any."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say old man." He doesn't respond, simply sighing and walking away. "If that prick wants to talk to me he can do it here."

At this point, the tree is nearly covered with knives, I'm out of feathers that can be turned into weapons, I've finished my apple, and the sun is starting to set. I sigh softly, staring at the tree I covered in knives and swords. "Guess he's a no-show. Well, I'm not leaving this tree unless I have to, so I guess I'm-"
A gray scarf grabs me and pulls me out of the tree, and in half a second I'm face-to-face with a very angry looking Aizawa. "Took you long enough." My voice is slightly muffled because the scarf is squeezing my face.
"What were you thinking?! You can't just run off whenever you get mad! If people find out that you were running around without supervision they could've reported you! This isn't a game! If you had been caught they would've sent you to Tartarus! If you pull a stunt like that again I'll kill you myself."
"Relax, I'm not going to be sent to Tartarus over a little ruler breaking. I got away with it once, didn't I?"
"That's because you were following your classmates! The Hero Commission doesn't trust you enough to let you walk around alone, and until they do they're allowed to do whatever they want as discipline. Did you forget that you're government property?"
"I didn't forget, I just chose not to remember! I don't want to think of myself as property!"
He sighs, releasing me from his scarf. "Let's just go back to the dorm. I'll send someone down here to deal with the knives later." He sounds annoyed, but there's something else, a tone I haven't heard in years. I've heard concern plenty of times, but usually I'm just annoyed by it. This is a different kind of concern, the kind my parents gave me, and it takes all my willpower not to cry from it as I follow him back to the dorm.

"Woah, L/N, what happened to your wings?!"
"They're so tiny!"
"It's kinda cute..."
"It's none of your business. Leave me alone and go back to bothering Bakugo or something."
"Hey! Don't encourage them, Bird Brain!"
"I'll encourage them as long as your anger keeps being funny."
"It won't be funny when I blow your wings off!" He sets off little explosions in his hand as he says this.
"Both of you, stop! This is very unheroic behavior!" Four-Eyes runs between us.
"I don't think you can talk about 'unheroic.' The league told me about your little escapade in Hosu. What about that was heroic?" I watch with satisfaction as his expression changes to one of surprise, as well as a bit of fear and anger. Most of our classmates look confused, but I can see two in particular who already know about this. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a nap while my feathers grow back."
I walk to the elevator, ignoring the sound of footsteps following me. I groan when I enter the elevator and they keep following. "What do you want, Bakugo?"
"What the hell is with you lately?! You've been all on edge and now you're running off during classes?!"
"It doesn't matter. Just because we're getting along better doesn't mean we're friends."
"I never said we were, but you're acting weird! Ever since the exam you've been all messed up about something! I know you don't actually want to be a hero, so what's wrong with you?!"
"None of your business. Oh, look, we're on our floor, now I can go to my room and you can leave me alone." I step out of the elevator and start walking down the hall. Once I get to my room I go in, but instead of the door closing behind me there's a loud bang as Bakugo slams it open and walks in behind me.
"GODAMMIT! Why is this so important to you?! It's none of your business how I'm doing, and a few weeks ago you hated my guts! What changed?! And how do I change it back?!"
"It's important because you're acting reckless! The whole class knows you can get in serious trouble for running off like that, but I'm the only one who's not too much of a pussy to bring it up! Are you trying to get arrested?!"
"Seriously? I already had this talk with Aizawa, I don't need to be lectured again. Just get out."
"No! Why are you acting like an idiot?!"
"Because you guys are getting too close! You already know shit about my past that not even the principal knows, and I don't need you to know more! Now will you get out?!"
"That's what this is about?! That is the stupidest thing you've ever said! Why does it matter if people know things about you?!"
"Because I'm a terrible person and I don't need people knowing why that is! I didn't talk at all between the ages of five and ten for this exact reason!"
"You're a dumbass, y'know that?!" I watch him walk out and slam the door behind him.
I sigh as I lay down on my bed, staring at the ceiling. "I'd rather have another nightmare like I did on my first day than have to be conscious right now..."
