«All set. I'm mostly positive it will work.»
«Mostly.»

In spite of Adam's skepticism, my magical energy flowed through the asmodean crystal bruteforcing its purpose. Normally, everyone in possession of one didn't need anything else to travel to earth, but we didn't want that.

We looked up to Heaven, hatchlings who fell from the nest.
... But I guess that definition would suit Adam more. His foot was tapping, barely holding it together.

«Okay, it's a matter of seconds now.»
«Stop with the edging, gee-»

Words that were cut short. A gate of light opened over our heads, distinct from any other portal I ever saw thus far.
It was like a whirl which dazzled with each spin, pulling us in with gravity like a black hole.

The room quickly became a disarray from the centrifugal force, and of me and Adam, not even one hair.

Adam instinctively grabbed my hand moments before our disappearance. The brief journey was brutal, raising towards the light with our bodies overwhelmed by the ethereal current— the handgrip barely holding in.
I could see him, shocked, speaking to me.
But no sound could be heard.

Eventually, we both passed out.

-

Something cold gently landed on my hand.
Such a small thing, lighter than a feather. Yet that coldness sent a shiver, it awokened me.

Apparently, it started to snow.
I rose my head, with my hood tore apart but the mask still firm on my face. My white hair a mess, as if a storm just blew over them.
I looked to my left.
My left hand, the one Adam grabbed.

I sighed with relief.
He was still holding it, albeit sleeping in tall dark grass.
A solitary hill hospitated us, the sky was grey and as time went by the snow began to paint the land of white.

My head lowered a little, I fought to stay awake.

«Adam... A... dam...»

I reached weakly, drained.
But he didn't wake up.

On the verge of panic, I pulled my hair back, hands sliding through my forehead.

That was Earth.

I blacked out just after accepting my failure.

-

Muffled calls tickled my senses as I slowly regained conscience.

«WAKE THE FUCK UP!»

I opened my eyes.
Looking around, it must've been some hours, because the plains around the hill were now completely white, at sunset.

«Finally... explain this shit ASAP!»

Adam stood up, looking fully restored. Perky yet agitated.

«The crystal... do you have the crystal?»
«What? No.»
«Shit.»
«Boy! Communicate!»

I tried getting up too, but my legs didn't support me for half a second, and I found myself caught in Adam's arms.

«We failed. My magic wasn't enough even enchanted through the crystal. We ended up exactly where the crystal usually brings its user to, with the exception that we lost it in the way in. And I-»

My breaths felt heavy.

«I'm exhausted. I barely feel any magic left in me.»

Adam kept listening.

«Wow. Just- Wow. You really fucked up both of us here.»
«Adam... I»
«No, save it. Really, save your breath... Let's focus on getting back together.»
«...Your reaction is surprisingly mature.»
