"Connor, what's wrong?" Natasha asked Connor, the two were still searching the abandoned Barack's.
"Nothing, I'm fine," Connor said with a sigh, in truth
he wasn't, not since he saw Natasha and Steve share that kiss back in the mall. He tried his best to understand it was for the mission and nothing else, but the feeling in his stomach said otherwise.
The spy knew there was more to what Connor let on and was slightly hurt he wouldn't...trust her. "Connor, you can trust me-"
"Can I? You haven't given me a reason to," Connor spoke with a slight edge and accusation tone laced in his voice. A tone he regretted when he saw the look on Natasha's face. In truth, Connor had come to accept what happened two years ago between the two, he understood that everything was out of her control. A remorseful expression found its way onto his face as he spoke to Natasha, "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that."
She shook her head and stared back at him, "No, it's okay, I kind of deserve it." Silence hung between the two, neither person knowing what to say. "I know it's kind of selfish to ask, especially with what happened, but I want you to know you can trust me," Natasha spoke. She grabbed his arm and looked into his eyes, hoping Connor could see the sincerity in her words.
"I understand that, but you kept secrets from me, secrets I deserved to know, Natasha. Fury, I could understand, hell I would expect that, but not from you." Connor paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before he continued, "I still don't think I've gotten over it, if I'm being honest, but with that being said," He smiled and grabbed her hand, gently removing his arm, "It might take me some time, however, I think it's possible to rebuild that trust."
The redhead's smile widened as she maintained eye contact with Connors. Without even realizing it, they leaned in closer to each other until they could almost feel the warmth of each other's breath on their faces.
"Guys! You need to see this!" Their eyes opened and they instantly gave each other space, Connor, offered a few apologies while Natasha smiled and waved them off.
"Guess we better go before Gramps finds us," Connor said.
"I guess so, then again, the thrill of being caught is kinda hot," Natasha spoke back with a tease and walked away with a noticeable sway in her hips, leaving Connor with an ever-growing blush on his face.
"Connor is everything ok?" Steve asked as the man in question joined the two on the elevator. Natasha glanced at Connor and flashed a smile watching the predicament he was in.
"Yep," He answered as he stared at the door.
"You sure you like kinda red?"
"Can you just press the fucking button please," Connor asked impatiently.
"Watch your language son."
"It's times like these I wish Loki killed me back in New York."
Natasha chuckled and decided to put an end to the man's agony by starting the elevator.
"Thanks," Connor muttered as the elevator descended. Steve shot a curious glance at Natasha, who simply shrugged in response.
"So, what was all that about back there with you and Natasha?" Steve prodded, unable to resist his curiosity.
Connor shifted uncomfortably, trying to brush off Steve's question. "Nothing really. Just discussing... mission stuff."
Steve raised an eyebrow, unconvinced by Connor's vague response. "Uh-huh, sure. Looked like more than just a mission discussion to me."
