Chapter Seven: We lost, so I did
The ash made my face grey. I coughed and tried to cover my mouth and nose. I was everywhere: destruction. Mass destruction. There I was, running for my life, carrying only a rifle. I saw them from meters away. Them.
I hid in a quite undamaged house, that was at the edge of the corner. I could only hear impacts, fired bullets and screaming people. They screamed not the way if someone would be on fire. In fact, it sounded like someone who would be stung with a pole or knife. I knew there were people outside. I was just scared. I always called myself a coward, because I always fled if problems were coming. The rifle in my hands made me feel stronger, but still scared. Scared to die.
I looked out of the window very closely. There were great fires, destroyed houses... and even bodies. But actually none of them looked burned. I watched it more closely. There were several holes in their chest, like someone stung them all. I got bad feelings about the situation. Suddently, the wooden floor behind me cracked. I turned around and aimed my rifle. I still heard it. I still aimed. I saw an arm coming from behind the wall. It was all cut open. Then, a man appeared. He had some bad injuries on his body. I recognized him: Preacher Bradbury. I talked a lot with him when I was on this planet. He was very pleased to have me here.
"D...d....don't go o...o..outside...e..." he said. I pulled him with me, to the corner of the room. I looked at his wound. It was like some knife stung trough his chest. Luckily his heart was not hit, so I tried to treat him. I ran to the bathroom, that was nearly collaped by some walls. I reached the medicine closet, and picked a tube out of it. I knew this medicine would protect against infections, further blood loss, and it would stimulate the healing. I ran back to Bradbury, and injected the medicine in his upper arm. He coughed heavy, but after a few minutes he was clear again
"Those..... those things, they killed everything in their path: men, women and children...." Bradybury said. "How did they look like?" I asked, while I cleaned my glasses. "They looked like... humans, but bigger..." He said. "I also saw that girl where you were talking about last time."
