Since Florence's argument with Meredith the resident has completely shut herself out from everyone. Including Lexie. She didn't intend to, not after the reason she lost her friends was because she refused too breakup with the intern. But Florence Shepherd has never been good at feelings. Never. It almost certainly comes from being the youngest of 6, constantly overlooked, there's just no time for you.

Lexie wishes she could make the resident see that she has time for her, always. But the interns attempts at communicating with the resident have been either very brief or completely ignored. Lexie felt like she was drowning, all she wants is Florence, she knows the older woman wants her too, it just didn't seem that way right now.

Derek approaches Florence at the nurses station "Flo, when are we going to talk about this?" he asks

"About what?" Florence questions

Derek sighs "You just- you seem sad, depressed and you're a lot quieter than usual"

"Derek, this is not the time to be my brother" Florence replies

"I am your brother" Derek says

"Yes, but we're working" Florence replies

"But I will always be your brother before i'm a doctor" Derek says softly

"Please, i'm asking you as your sister, talk about something else" Florence replies

Derek hesitantly agrees "All right...I'm very optimistic about this new viral cocktail. Adding in I. L. -2 should make a very big difference. We're close. We're gonna open this bottle of champagne soon"

"Great" Florence replies

"Florence, seriously. Are you okay?" Derek asks

"I'm fine"

"Listen, clinical trials can be a grind. If this is getting to you, I can do this one on my own" Derek reassures her

"I'm not a quitter. I don't need you to rescue me. Let's just do this" Florence says leading the way into their patients room

"Because waiting is a bad idea. I mean, we're talking about your health" Greta's sister says to Greta

"Dr. Shepherd can say no if it's such a problem" Greta says looking at Derek

"What am I saying no to?" Derek asks

"Is there any way you could push back the surgery a few hours? My boyfriend's flight was cancelled. I want him to be here" Greta replies

"Greta" her sister says

"He has some questions. He's so smart about this stuff. I don't even know what to ask" Greta continues talking to Derek

"Are you reconsidering the procedure?" Derek asks

"Andre and I have had so little time together. We met in January. I mean, this treatment could kill me, right?" Greta asks

"You have a very aggressive tumor. Even if we don't operate, you're looking at a few months" Derek replies

"But I'd spend them with Andre. Do you know how precious that is, time with the person you love?" Greta asks, Florence's mind immediately drifts to Lexie, the resident feeling stupid about the way she's been acting
