Zain's POV
''Laila, can we please stop arguing over this? I'll talk to my parents, just give me some time,'' she would probably rip my head off if we were talking face to face and not through the phone.
''No Zain, this is enough! We've known each other for so long and you need to send a proposal soon! '' Laila's temper had surpassed the roof now. Why is she making such a big deal out of it? Besides we've just known each other for a couple of months.
''I'm not even settled now, I'm the eldest son, I need to make sure that I can financially support my family and you before I commit to this.''
''We can get engaged? You can at least send a proposal!'' She retaliated. She seemed like a crazy cat lady right now.
''Yeah but why would your parents accept someone like me? I have a job but I need to do this accountancy course abroad to get my promotion and that's going to take time. You need to do your specialist degree too.''
''I don't care about your excuses, Just talk to your parents.''
''Just give me a few days, I'll talk to them.....'' and she hung up.
Day by day , I'm starting to get more annoyed with her. Our conversations are nothing but a huge mess of arguments. I get it! She's scared that I'll ditch her but I'm not ready for such a big commitment at the moment. I need an year or two, need to complete my education, need to get settled and then marry her. She's only an year younger than me but sometimes she's so immature, she struggles with her job and studies now, how can she manage a house on top of that if we were to marry? I thought she would understand my workaholic nature and prove to be a goodwife but now I'm seriously doubting that.

''Sonia?'' I called out to my little sister, '' I got you some doughnuts.''
''You got me doughnuts? ''
''Whattttt? I always get you little treats,'' her stare was still accusing me. ''okayyy so I need a little favour...''Eventhough she was two years younger than me and quite immature for her age, we were like best friends. No secrets, no formality! However, Laila was a long kept secret.
''You need me to tell mum & dad about your girlfriend?''
Sonia knows? Wth? ''How do you know about.....''
''Wait, What? You actually have a girlfriend? What's her name? Show me a picture?'' Her interrogation started.
''Umm...Yeah sort of...She's Laila'' I showed her Laila's picture on my phone.
''She looks amazing and you're a cute couple.''
''I know, every girl looks amazing next to your amazing brother! But what are you going to tell mum & dad?''
''Shit!!...''
''Language Sania, language!'' I reminded her.
''They saw some girl at a wedding last month and they're going over her house this weekend.''
''So what does it have to do this?'' I asked innocently.
''They're thinking of her as your future wife.''
''Oh, Shit....But they haven't even talked to me....''
''Language bhai (brother), language!'' Sonia reminded me.
