Aisha's POV
I looked at the diamond studded ring that complemented my petite hands. It wasn't any traditional engagement ring; it was more delicate, exactly like the ones I had imagined when I was getting engaged to Fahad. The ring I received then was Fahad's mum's choice and needless to say, it was nothing like the one I had desired since I was 16. I was hushed up when I suggested exchanging it because his family thought I shouldn't be interfering in such decisions. Leaving the past aside, I was now the 'proud' owner of my dream engagement ring however the twist here was ; I was getting married to Zain, and once again I was told that I shouldn't be interfering in the elders' decision of marrying him.
*Flashback*
'What do mean that you couldn't stop them?' Zain screamed down the phone. He had probably found out that my parents had agreed to the proposal and we were getting engaged over the weekend.'Zain! Stop shouting! Why didn't you stop your parents yourself?' I questioned him back.
'You know I couldn't. I can't hurt my parents!' He was still shouting.
'Then how do you expect me to hurt my parents? Both of us are doing this for our parents! We're equally responsible! You can't just blame me!' My voice was slightly raised now.
'I don't love you and you know what? Even if we do get married, I won't EVER love you!' he bluntly answered.
'Oh 'Mr. I'm perfect', no one's dying to marry you! I don't love you either!' I blurted and with that, he hung up.
*Flashback Over*
The next time I saw Zain, it was at the engagement where he sat next to me and didn't talk to me at all. He was so cheerful that if someone looked at him, they would never find out about the secrets within us. I had a much difficult time pretending to be happy but he was just doing it effortlessly.
How could I be happy? Even Laila
blamed me when Zain explained her the situation. Despite me repeatedly apologising we still haven't talked since. Sometimes I wonder why I'm apologising. I told her that I could stop this wedding if I told my parents about her affair with Zain. My parents could convince their parents and they could even get married but she refused. She said that she had received an internship with some foreign company and she was moving abroad for a year. She wanted to continue her relationship with her boyfriend i.e. my future husband but wasn't ready for any commitment yet. Needless to say, she didn't come at the engagement and wasn't coming to my wedding either. Somewhere she's responsible for all of this too; she should've told her parents about it.I sat by the window as the moonlight made its way to me. The few hours I had before dawn seemed like some precious present that I was about to lose tomorrow. All I could do is to flow with the upcoming events and sign on those papers that would cage me in Zain's captivity forever. My status would be of a prisoner instead of the free bird I had thought of. But they won't call me a prisoner; they'll call me a wife, Zain's wife and punish me for the crimes I never committed.
I had finally gathered enough courage to do what I was dreading all this while. I picked up my phone and swiped through my contacts...
Zain's POV
I only had tonight's worth of freedom and tomorrow I would get married. I don't care about the fact that Aisha's the bride; I'm more annoyed by the fact that I'm the groom. I'm not ready for such a commitment! I need time, time for myself. I need to go to the UK, give some accountancy exams, get a better job and then think about marriage. I need my freedom too!As for laila, she needs to progress in her career too so we're giving each other some time to plan out our lives and then we'll get married. By that time, I'll probably convince my parents that Aisha's not the one for me and finalise a divorce. Both Laila and I are career orientated and she'll understand my workaholic nature which is why I should marry her. Aisha's probably one of those traditional irritating wives who complain about not giving them enough time!'
'Ringggg Ringggg'
I see the caller id and who's the lucky caller? 'Egoistic Witch'! (A bit too rude?)
'Hello,' I disinterestedly say.
'Asalamualiakum, Aisha here.'
'Listen Aisha, I don't need your lectures now so please just.....' I don't know why I easily get annoyed at her.
'ZAIN!! I don't know how long this marriage drama is gonna last but I need an agreement from you.'
I patiently listened and then asked, 'What agreement?'
