Matheo paced back and forth in his room, the clock striking eight. Memories of their last meeting on Friday flooded his mind, intensifying his worry.  He already dialed her number endlessly, only to be met with silence. He even tried reaching out to her parents, but their unresponsiveness added to his unease.

A whirlwind of emotions consumed Matheo, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on him like a heavy burden. With anxiety gnawing at his insides, he made a resolute decision. Grabbing his phone and keys, he set off towards Jane's house.

Matheo's heart raced as he approached the door, his knuckles rapping against the wood in a desperate rhythm, each knock echoing through the silence of the night. Anticipation hung heavy in the air, mingling with the faint hope that Jane's familiar voice would soon greet him. However, the only response that met his ears was the hollow sound of his own knocks reverberating in the stillness, intensifying the eerie atmosphere that enveloped the house. The absence of any other noise heightened Matheo's unease, casting a shadow of doubt over his already troubled mind. With each unanswered knock, the sense of dread deepened, pushing him further into the unknown, his resolve tested by the ominous silence that enveloped him.

Matheo clenched his eyes shut, clinging to a sliver of hope that Jane would appear behind the door, but as seconds turned into eternity, a cascade of warm tears broke free from his tightly shut eyes.

Matheo was drowning in a storm of emotions, with Jane's absence casting a dark shadow over his world. Her entrance had been a ray of sunshine in his life, a brief escape from his troubles. She had been his rock, his solace, but now, with her sudden vanishing act, he was left adrift in a sea of confusion and yearning. His mother's words echoed in his mind, urging him to trust his heart, but now, his heart lay shattered into a million pieces, each fragment a painful reminder of his loss. Standing at a crossroads of emotions, Matheo grappled with the daunting task of choosing which shard of his fractured heart to follow. The once-clear path ahead was now obscured by doubt, leaving him lost in a labyrinth of emotions, searching for a glimmer of light in the darkness.

Matheo's body slowly yielded to the weight of his emotions as he leaned against the door. As his body bent towards the ground, inch by inch, it was as if the weight of the world bore down upon him, bending not just his physical form but his very spirit. With a heavy heart and weary limbs, he allowed himself to sink lower, his descent mirroring the depths of his despair. Finally, as his exhausted body met the cool embrace of the floor, he closed his eyes, seeking solace in the oblivion of sleep, a temporary respite from the turmoil raging within him.

"So, she's not home right now."

"No, her closet was practically empty, like she vanished into thin air after packing up all her things," Mr. Peter remarked, flipping through his meticulously recorded notes.

"Well, you better start tracking her down for me."

" I once overhead her and Matheo talking about some kind of trip to Greece, maybe she went there." Mr. Peter said trying to connect the dots.

"Michael, you were the one that told me that her parents didn't let her go with them, so surely she's not here."

"So she ran away?"

"Maybe, but why? What happened with her?"

"Remember Friday, when Matheo invited her to some dinner, maybe something happened with them there. Matheo looked worried all the day. Something's off in this story."

"Well, I hope all the worse for him. I spent years surrounded by lunatics in hospitals all because of him."

"I'll dig deeper for clues. Once I crack this case, I'll shoot you a message," he vowed before snatching the bag of cash and vanishing into the shadows.
