Marc and Marina stroll into their hotel room in Cairo, the exotic city buzzing just outside their door. Marc heaves a dramatic sigh as he drops his bags with a thud.

Marina's eyes dart around, taking in the scene: one bed, one bathroom, a full-length mirror standing sentinel before the bed, and a sturdy wooden dresser nearby. She saunters to the window and flings it open, revealing a breathtaking view of the Pyramids of Egypt. "Damn, this place is nice," she murmurs, eyes wide with awe. "Steven would love this."

"I'm heading out for a bit. Need to track down a guy," Marc announces, already halfway to the door.

Before Marina can respond, the door clicks shut behind him. She sighs, unzips her bag, and pulls out a fresh change of clothes. She feels grimy after wearing the same outfit from yesterday and enduring an almost five-hour flight. A hot shower and clean clothes are just what she needs to shake off the travel fatigue.

As she lifted her shirt above her head, she let out a small hiss. Her fingers lightly grazed the dark brown bruise on her side. Seth had helped her recover from the fight with the Jackal, but the bruises remained, healing slowly.

"Oh um... I-I-I." Startled by a voice, Marina quickly pulled her shirt down and looked around the room. She walked over to the balcony, peering out to see if someone had somehow scaled the building. Given the crazy events of the past few days, nothing would surprise her anymore.

Seeing no one, she shrugged and resumed changing.

"Oh wow, t-t-this." The voice startled her again. She swiftly pulled her shirt down and spun around, her eyes landing on the mirror.

"Oh my god, Steven?!" Marina yelled at her friend in the reflection

Steven stood there, his face flushed and eyes darting everywhere except at her.

" Why didn't you say anything?!" she demanded.

Steven stammered, unable to form a coherent response. Marina was his friend, and he had been excited when she wanted to make up for their missed date. But their plans had been derailed by the first Jackal attack.

Marina sighed. "I'm going to take a shower. There's a mirror in there too. When I'm in there, you are not. Got it?"

"I-I-I j-j-" Steven sighed, defeated by the look on Marina's face. She stood there, eyebrows raised, clearly expecting compliance. "Yes, ma'am."

Marina grabbed her clothes and walked into the bathroom, her face flushed from the awkward encounter.

...

The water cascaded down her back, each droplet a soothing caress. Marina closed her eyes, embracing the paradox of her serenity; water was her refuge, yet with one stray zap from her hands, it could become her demise.
