AUTHOR'S POV

he asked, trying to distract her from the darkness of his conversation.

"Then teach me. Teach me the last lecture you studied. I want to know what you learned."

The sudden shift in topic was jarring, but she understood what he was trying to do.

Nodding slightly, she began to explain her last lesson, her voice shaky at first but gradually gaining strength.

Mehak took a deep breath, her voice trembling slightly as she started.

"In the last lecture, I studied the case history of a person who has a disease called melanoma."

Her words came slowly at first, each one carefully measured, as if she were navigating through a minefield of emotions.

"This is the most serious form of skin cancer, which is more common in people with light skin. It can appear anywhere on the body as a mole with irregularly shaped edges, asymmetrical shapes, and multiple colors."

As she spoke, her voice began to steady, the familiarity of the subject matter giving her a sense of control that had been absent moments before.

Siddharth watched her closely, his expression softening with every word she uttered. He didn't fully grasp the medical jargon, the specifics of the disease she was describing, but that didn't matter.

What mattered was the way she was beginning to anchor herself, pulling away from the darkness that had threatened to consume them both.

Mehak continued, her tone growing more assured as she delved deeper into the details.

"In People of Color, melanoma often appears in areas that are less exposed to the sun,"

she explained, her eyes momentarily lighting up with the passion of someone who cared deeply about what they were saying.
