"Miss North," Sister Abigail called, giving the girl a pointed look. Ariel sat up straighter in her seat, tucking her latest letter from Warren into her lap.
"Yes, Sister?" The nun gave an annoyed sigh.
"You would do better to focus, Miss North. Looks fade, now pay attention."
Ariel nodded, embarrassed. She waited a few minutes before turning back to the letter.
Dear Ariel,
The guys have been making fun of me for moping around since you went back to school. But they don't get it. If they had a girlfriend who was as funny, smart, cool, and hot as you they'd be this way too. I can't wait till we're done with school and we can do whatever we want. The band is doing really well, yesterday-"Miss North!" Sister Abigail's voice called out. Ariel shot up in her seat to look at her. "If I have to call for your attention again, we're going to have a problem. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Sister."
As soon as class ended, Ariel was rushing down the hall to her dorm.
"Jesus, where's the fire?" Sarah asked. She was sat on Mary's bed while Mary stood at the window, keeping her let cigarette just outside. Paris was at Mary's desk with a textbook open in her lap, but it seemed to be long forgotten.
"Oh, she got another letter from her boyfriend," Mary teased. "If she doesn't write him back immediately she'll die." The girls laughed, Ariel rolled her eyes. "They've been like this since first year."
"Yeah but now they've got the phone calls." Paris added. "I miss you, I love you, I can't wait to see you" the girls laughed again. "It's the worst if you get stuck behind her in the phone line." The teasing continued while Ariel began writing.
"He's not escorting you for debut is he?" Sarah asked, she had met Ariel's parents a few times. She knew what they were like.
"No," Ariel sighed. "You'll never believe who is"
"I know who is," Mary said in a sing song voice. "Teddy Huntington."
"Kelly's brother?" Sarah asked with disgust. Ariel gave her a pathetic look.
"Oh come on, he's not totally hopeless." Mary defended.
"Who cares? Kelly's the nightmare. Ariel will be lucky if she doesn't dump the punch bowl on her." Paris said.
"That's not funny" Ariel said, turning back to her letter. "It's not like I want to go with Teddy or anything. It's my parents."
The girls gave her a pitying look.
...
Billy was getting really sick of Warren messing up the song's intro today.
"Jesus, Warren, what's going on?" Billy said while the guys groaned.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm focused." Warren apologized.
"He's thinking about his girlfriend in her school girl uniform." Eddie teased, rolling his eyes. Warren had not been. Well, he was thinking about Ariel, not her uniform necessarily. Not right now.
"Shut up." He mumbled.
"Look we all like your girlfriend but can we actually rehearse? Please?"
