Wouldn't It Be Nice?

"Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up/ In the morning when the day is new?/ And after having spent the day together/ Hold each other close the whole night through/ Happy times together we've been spending/ I wish that every kiss was never ending/ Oh, wouldn't it be nice?"

Tensions rose as tour went on. Things got worse as Nicky kept Daisy strung out on drugs. Daisy and Ariel avoided each other after the fight about the magazine. Ariel tried to ignore Nicky, which was easier said than done. She had given him back the earrings, simply forcing the box into his hand with the words 'diamonds cut glass'.

Warren and Billy both had a short temper with Nicky, Billy worse than Warren. Still, there was a clear tension in the room when they were around each other. A few days after the fight over the magazine, Warren and Nicky ended up alone for the first time.

Warren was outside smoking a cigarette after rehearsal when Nicky came outside, lighting his own cigarette.

"Hey" Nicky greeted him. Warren heated the way Nicky always acted like he knew something Warren didn't. Warren lifted his head a little in acknowledgment. There was a moment of silence before Nicky spoke again. "Where's your wife? She's been attached at your hip the past few days."

"Why don't you worry about where your wife is" Warren responded. It was almost comical to him how much this guy just wouldn't give up. Nicky scoffed out a laugh at him.

"What? Don't like Ariel having friends?"

"Don't flatter yourself, you're not her friend. Actually she can't fucking stand you." Warren said, turning to face Nicky fully.

"You'll never be good enough for a girl like Ariel."

"Man, you have no clue how late you are to that one." Warren laughed. Warren had heard that comment almost his whole life with Ariel. "I may not be good enough for her but she choose me. You'll never be good enough for her. And next time you buy her gifts and try to put your hands on her I'll beat the shit out of you."

"You think you're a big man or something?" Nicky asked, puffing up his chest.

"I wonder what Daisy thinks about you buying other women gifts, hitting on other Ariel under behind her back."

"Daisy loves me. She'd never believe I'd do that, no matter what anyone said."

"Yeah and you keep her too drugged up to believe anything. You're not her husband you're her dealer." Warren spat and stepped away from Nicky.

"Is that how you got Ariel to be with you? Drugs?" Warren couldn't believe Nicky's words. "That's certainly what the news reported during the trial. Maybe she'll stop fucking Billy if you get her high after shows-" Warren cut him off by shoving him back, Nicky stumbled a few steps.

"Shut the fuck up. Don't ever talk about Ariel's sobriety. Don't talk about my relationship." Warren shoulder checked him as he walked away and went back inside.

When he made his way into the room where everyone was eating before the show his hands were still shaking. Ariel noticed immediately.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm fine" he said, forcing a smile onto his face. She didn't believe him for a second.

"Warren," she looked at him and waited for him to meet her stare. "What's going on?" He didn't want her to worry about this, but they also didn't lie to each other.

"Nicky was just talking shit. It's fine though, I promise." He said, taking her hand in his.

"What did he say?" She asked.
