Invisible String

"Time, curious time/ Gave me no compasses, gave me no signs/ Were there clues I didn't see?/ And isn't it just so pretty to think/ All along there was some invisible string/ Tying you to me?"

Ariel Rojas: Daisy was still a force on stage even when she was falling apart but it was sad to watch. She had told me she was putting rules in place for herself, when it came to drugs, that it was the best she could do.

Interviewer: What did you say to that?

Ariel Rojas: I told her that I thought that was the best she could do while still on tour. She couldn't get sober in that environment but not being fully sober makes relapse a lot easier. I think she turned that need for something, that fixation, on to someone.

Interviewer: Who?

Ariel Rojas: I don't know if it's my place...

...

"I was thinking maybe we should see if Daisy wants to tag along with us next time," Billy said as he and Ariel finished their morning jog.

"Really?" She asked, eyebrows raised. Her and Daisy were getting along now that Nicky wasn't around, so it wasn't that she didn't want her there. She just thought that after everything on tour, Billy would be the last person to invite Daisy anywhere. Or at least she did think that, but with Nicky gone and Daisy trying to be sober, Daisy and Billy were getting suspiciously close. "I don't think she's much of a morning person, Billy."

"Yeah," Billy laughed. "I don't know, maybe we should still ask," his words trailed off.

"You can ask if you want. You two are becoming good friends now?" She posed it like a question but she knew the answer.

"I mean, yeah, kind of. We got along during the making of the album." She looked at him, the question really on her face. "Okay, maybe not all the time." He laughed a little, like he couldn't remember the whole Rolling Stones article or Hawaii or anything in between. "But like sometimes, yeah. We're pretty similar."

"Yeah." Was all she said. They were similar, but not necessarily in a good way.

They walked side by side in silence for a bit. There was no confirmation that Daisy and Billy had ever hooked up. No one had ever seen anything explicit. But Ariel was pretty sure something had happened, forget the lyrics, it was just in the air around them. Now that Daisy was single and with Camilla away from Billy, both of them connected by Daisy's near death experience, it was a disaster in the making. And Ariel hadn't forgotten that Camilla thought he had cheated when the album was being written. That wasn't that long ago.

"How do you and Warren do it, being as different as you are?" Billy asked out of nowhere. Ariel laughed a little, thinking he was joking.

"Oh like you and Camilla?" She joked back, turning to look at him she realized he was serious.

"Yeah," he responded solemnly.

"Oh," was all she could say at first, slightly offended by the question.

"Like you two work together even though you aren't totally compatible-"

"Oh, so no we're not compatible? I thought we were just different?" She couldn't keep the annoyance out of her voice. It was silly and small, but the idea that her and Warren didn't work together had always been a sore point. She knew she shouldn't let it work her up but she couldn't seem to help it.

"Ariel, come on, you know what I meant." He said and she sighed. She didn't want to know what he meant, but she did.

"I know that, like, on paper Warren and I seem different, and I know, I know, everyone has always pointed it out but... I've just never felt that when I'm with him. We've always been us. Like everything has always gotten complicated when we're apart but when we come back together, it's easy. Love should be easy, it should feel simple. You know?"
