As he watches Taylor disappear with a dive into the stage, he takes a deep breath and wipes at his eyes again.
"Brit sent me over to make sure you are really okay," comes Pat's voice from his right.
Travis lets out a wet laugh and turns to his friend. Patrick has a knowing look on his face.
"Yeah, man. You already know," he replies, trying to sound nonchalant and failing. "Fuck."
Patrick laughs and slaps him on the back. He looks back towards the stage, as the lights transition to the Midnights era.
"I don't think I'll ever get used to her singing to me." he continues. "Singing songs she wrote about me, man. That Tay...that she loves me, you know? That she's gonna..."
He stops, knowing he shouldn't bring up their engagement in mixed company. Patrick nods, knowing what he's not saying. Understanding how he feels. If anyone understands still being in awe of the girl of your dreams loving you it is Pat. Travis knows how much he worships the ground his wife walked on.
"I gotta say, Trav. Watching you this past year has been so fucking fun. Should have known when you came back from trying to get backstage looking like a kicked puppy that we'd end up here."
"Fuck, even if I had got backstage, I'd never have dreamed we'd be here. That she'd ever give me the time of day."
And that is true. It had almost given him more confidence to make a move. He had thought that she'd be nice and polite and promptly forget all about him when he left the locker room. So what did he have to lose? He just had to try.
"Nah, dawg," Pat argues. "If anyone was going to catch Taylor's eye, it was going to be you. Brit and I were sure after we saw you during the show."
Travis gives him a look. His friend is full of it.
"Fine don't believe me," he says, raising his hands in a shrug.
They turn back to the show and watch until it's time for Travis to head backstage.

The roar of the crowd fades away as he enters under the stage. As he stands by the lift where she'll come down, the crew stops to give him a dab or slap him on the back as they pass. The bustle around him has become familiar but he's still fascinated by it. Loves taking it in. And he'll miss this team of people who work so hard for Taylor. He's excited to get back to work in KC for the new season but god, he wishes he could be here to watch her take the last lap of the journey she's been on for the past year and a half. Wishes he could watch her commandeer the crowds and bring so much joy and just get to stand by her side.
The stage lift lowers and he suddenly has an armful of his girl. She pulls off her bright jacket and he gathers her close, drinking her in—this moment, this woman, this overwhelming love he has for her. He pulls back just enough to kiss her, pouring everything he's feeling tonight into it.
As they part, she whispers in his ear, "Was it electric?"
He laughs at her callback to his words at the Super Bowl. He buries his face in her neck, inhaling the sharp smell of her, and feels the tears well up again.
"It was everything, Tay. I know I heard the songs the other day, but you up there? I..." he stops, too overwhelmed to continue.
"I know, baby. Me too," she soothes as her hands brush across his neck.
He pulls back to look at her. She's so beautiful like this, he could start crying all over again. Her hair is sticking to her face from the sweat around her hairline and her own eyes are bright with unshed tears as she reaches up to brush her thumbs under his eyes.
"I have loved having you here with me, have I told you?"
"Once or twice."
"Yeah, well, hear it again," she jokes before becoming serious. "That's all I've ever wanted, Trav. Someone beside me. I'm so fucking glad it's you. That's why I wanted you to have these songs."
He pulls her close again, reaching for her hand. "Thank you. Even when I'm not here this next month. I'm here, Tay. I promise."
"I don't need you to promise. I know you will be," she says confidently.
She turns, tugging on his arm. "Ready to go?"
He smiles before exclaiming, "Hell yeah! Let me go get them hype for you, baby."
She rolls her eyes as the crowd comes into view. She puts her hand up to his ear so he can hear her over the roar, "You're ridiculous."
He ducks his head to her, "You love it."
She beams up at him, "Absolutely."
They turn, hand in hand. And as they come fully into view, the crowd goes wild.

Later that night, a text comes in from Pat. Travis opens his messages and he startles Taylor with how loud his laugh is as he reads.
"What?" she asks.
"Oh man, he wasn't kidding." He hands the phone over to Taylor and she reads the screenshot on the text before looking back up with a wide grin.

Brit: Why does TK look like he got traded to the Raiders?
He got cockblocked by security from going to the locker room with a friendship bracelet for TS.
A friendship bracelet with his phone # on it. 😎
Brit: No fucking way! Damn Trav, I didn't know he had that kind of game.

Brit: Man he's in it. Look at him watch her.
Brit: I bet he tries again. Wanna bet me fifty bucks?
Babe, I see his face. I'd be fucking stupid to take that bet. The man is gone. If anyone can get Taylor Swift's attention, it will be Kelc.

I'm going to have to hear sad Taylor Swift music in our shared dorm room at training camp, aren't I?
