Mars felt nothing but the searing heat that consumed his body. The bright, red light getting bigger and brighter with every step he took. He made this decision. And he wasn't backing down now. No matter how much his body begged for him to stop and turn around.
He's been alone in the inner system for too long. He watched them all die. Everyone. He remembers all of it. Their screams. Their cried of agony. The look on their faces forever engraved in the back of his mind. Worst of all... He lost the one person he thought he'd spend his life with. Earth. He dearly beloved. He love him with all his core. He missed him so much. He missed his voice. His smile. His touch. His personality. He missed everything about him. And he missed the others as well. Mercury, Venus,... His kids.
There was a bottomless pit in his heart that can never be filled. No amount of talking and convincing will ever get him to chicken out. He's been planning this moment for months if not, years. Mars was almost there, just a little further to where Earth's orbit is. He waited until his orbit wasn't aligned with Jupiter's or Saturn's and until Sun was asleep.
A choked sob escaped his lips as he felt his surface pretty much catch on fire. He felt his surface crack under the pressure and heat. He could feel something drip down the side of his face. He closed his eyes and bit his lip as he let gravity do it's work. He held back a scream as it felt like his arm was just ripped off. It was all so overwhelming and he just needed to end it.
He kept telling himself; it's almost over
Over and over again. He repeated it in his mind like a mantra. He opened his eyes and took one last look at the solar system, seeing the stars twinkle in the distance. It distracted him for a moment from the pain. He Quinter his eyes as he saw something or someone on the distance... It was hard to make out their features, but they were just standing there. He continued to look at the figure, until if finally clicked.
WAIT, DON'T LEAVE ME AGAIN!
...
Mars's eyes fluttered opened. His body felt sore and his head felt fuzzy. Once his vision focused he was looking at the stars. He was confused. He groaned as he sat up, his body protesting in response. He placed a hand to his head in hopes of trying to stop the spinning.
"Mars?
Mars immediately turned his head towards the voice. Mars's core nearly stopped. Was he dreaming? No, he has to be... There's no way...
Mars's breath caught in his throat as Earth walked over and kneeled in front of him. Earth smiled warmly at him " Hey, buddy... Long time no see.."
Mars blinked. He could feel tears forming in the corner of his eyes. "... Earth...? I..."
Earth smiled and pulled him into an embrace. Mars let out a quiet sob as he hugged him back. He felt so relived. Earth is here. Earth is in his arms again.
"Welcome home, Mars" Earth said as he kissed Mars's cheek. Mars eventually pulled away and cupped Earth's face. "Am... Am I dreaming..?" "No... You're not" Earth reassured. A small smile crept up onto Mars's face as tears of joy rolled down his cheeks. He caressed Earth's cheek with his thumb. Earth just chuckled and kissed his cheek again, which only made Mars's smile bigger. Now is his chance to do something he hasn't done in forever.
Without waisting a second, Mars pulled Earth into a kiss. Butterflies fluttering his stomach and a warm sensation bubbled up in his chest. Earth was a bit caught off guard but melted into the kiss.
They're finally reunited...
